Title: favourite Anime/Manga
Post by: Kachi-san on May 26, 2009, 01:28:14 PM
My favourite anime would be Rurouni Kenshin. It was my first anime obsession. My favourite manga will forever be "Bizenghast" and next month the next volume comes out! Wooty woot! *does cartwheel*

So what kind of anime/manga do you like?

Rurouni Kenshin manga kicks the anime's ass, I suggest reading it over watching it.

I am currently in love with .hack in terms of anime though I am watching Tsubasa Chronicles because I get CLAMP withdrawal every now and then for some unexplained reason. I think they put subliminal brainwashes in their animes.

favourite manga is a tie between Kyūketsuki Miyu and Aa Megami-sama!... for now anyway.

EDIT: Also like Fate Stay Night, Samurai Champloo, and Claymore.

I forget what it's called, but it was about gay sex and this one guy had an invisible penis. When the other guy jacked him off you could see the semen but not the penis it was great : D any idea what it was called?

What the everlovin' fuck?

God, Japan, seriously.....just...ugh.

Invisible? I can't think of any with that in it.
I have seen "Bible Black". A bit disturbing....
What about "Ergo Proxy"? It's about the god of death.
The style and the music is captivating. ^_~

I can't say I actually like Ergo Proxy except for the artwork. Beautiful imagery I just couldn't get myself into the storyline for some reason.

My top two anime are Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club. Forgive me if those seem stupid. The fact that I'm a thirteen-year-old chick tends to influence these kinds of things. (I don't think they're stupid, I'm just pre-defending myself from any potential flamers.)

My favourite manga is I Hate You More Than Anything. I love how in anime and manga, the characters can be so strange and ridiculously outrageous, yet still so... awesome.

Like clowns, manga freaks me out. And I'm just not talking about the freaky, seriously messed up stuff I heard a colleague referring to the other day (something about brutal group rapings... who would 'read' that?). No, pretty much any Japanese cartoon with the typical huge eyes, they haunt me in my sleep. Like clowns. Did I mention clowns?

Ouran, Death Note, Inuyasha, Bleach, and Gintama are all good.

One that I don't think has been discussed yet is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (or, if you like dubs better, "When They Cry." But believe me. The original Japanese is always way better.) It's reeaaally disturbing, but somehow fascinating. If you don't like gore and really creepy themes, then I wouldn't recommend it, but it really is creative and overall a great anime. Its disturbing parts are clashed together with really funny, fluffy parts, but somehow it all works together really well. It's kind of bipolar the way it switches between horrifying and hilarious. But it's really awesome. You should def watch it.

Others that I'm not sure have been mentioned: Darker Than Black (looooove this one), Lucky Star, Sailor Moon (of course!), Blood+, D Gray-Man...I love almost every anime I see. Can't go wrong!

But just remember: dubs are awful. Amen.

As for manga, I prefer the super shojo ones, like Honey & Clover, Kitchen no Ohimesama, Crimson Hero, and whatnot. I've come to the conclusion that shojo is better as manga, and shonen is better as anime. Dunno why. I just think so.

Outlaw Star hands down. Also I loved the old Toonami line-up. Tenchi Muyo, Gundam, Yu Yu Hakusho, the works. Before it got raped and turned into Meguzzi. Also Gundam SD sucked.

All the Gundam series I freakin' loved.

My current favorites are One Piece and Deathnote.

But my all-time favourite series is Galaxy Express 999. I read it when I was in Junior High and that thing brought all kinds of emotions in me. Loves me some Leiji Matsumoto.

My favourite manga is either 'Hellsing' or 'Deathnote', But i think my favourite Anime has to be 'Claymore'

Hellsing is a 'Vampire-turn-vampire-slayer' kind of manga, really good with some awesome artwork.
Deathnote is about a student that finds a special notebook that he can use to kill people, kind of a crime/thriller style.
Claymore follow the story of a demon slayer, its sort of an action/horror.

Didnt want to type/give too much away but you can look them up if your intrested :)

I'm just getting into Manga, so far my favourite is Ranma 1/2.

I read 3 volumes of Berserk but it seemed kind of depressing, though maybe it gets better in later volumes ?

I never really got into reading manga. Don't ask why, I just never did. But I do watch anime and right now I'm following Bleach (getting sick of the stupid zanpakutou fillers though), Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and Naruto Shippuden (they should really call this series Uchiha Sasuke just because he's all anyone ever cares about even though he's a total asshole  :-P).

Oh, and Citizen Joe.

Oh, and Window of Opportunity.

Legend of Koizumi.

Why? Because you have all the world leaders stereotyped to the extreme playing deadly games of mahjong (the 4-person tile game, not that computer crap) on the moon to defeat Nazis who are trying to destroy the world!

'Nuff said.

A new favourite of mine is Legal Drug (apparently Lawful Drug in Japan). I know I sound like a total yaoi fangirl, but I really just wish they would've given a more definitive ending where Kazahaya and Rikuo got together. Alas, it's off to fanfiction.net for me!

This is the first one I ever bought.

It's because it's not done, nor will it ever be. Shame they put an infinite hold on it after only 3 chapters; it was one of the very few I actually enjoyed.

Forget about two guys, if you watch Dragonball Z you can see a BUNCH of jacked up guys wrestling with each other; only reason I watched it... Lol I did actually really enjoy that show as a child.

The only reason it was worth it was because Vegeta was the shit. (Then he had kids with Bulma and became whipped to an extent, which was disappointing).

I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to anime/manga. I watched Death note last month, that was one of the first anime I have seen. I loved everything Dragonball growing up as well as Shaman King. My next goal is to watch Code Geass and then maybe read the Death note manga to compare it to the anime.

A word of advice:

As with movies made from books, anime rarely stand up to manga. It's better not to compare them at all, but to let them stand alone as their own stories separate of each other. Otherwise, you may find yourself horribly depressed.

This can also apply to musicals.

Of course, but as they are both essentially the same story some comparisons will form naturally no matter how hard you try to stop them.

I agree with xolik. anime is plagued by a tendency to look very similar to each other, and those adapted from much slower-moving manga leads to what tvtropes calls "inaction sequences" oh, and it just isnt very creative. everything is based off of or contains references to old Japanese myths, it seems. compare that to the frequency that, say, Greek myths show up in western animation.

Talking about anime, I have quite a number of favorites and selection. In fact, choosing one would be hard. But there is a few anime that I have been watching for quite some time ago. There’s One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, Gintama. Among all of the anime that I watched, I preferred Gintama most, as it is the most entertaining and most funny among all of the anime. It is mainly jokes and parodies of other anime.
