Post by: Masterkiva on March 23, 2010, 11:28:17 AM
okay I'm a perfect student only had maybe two or three C's in my life but i don't think i need to study for the ACT my parents are making me but i don't think i should because i think it will be easy as hell,  does anyone think i should study for this or does anyone have an opinion on it. (mostly looking for people who have taken the test before)

I never took it.  I studied my ass off for the LSAT, though.

But scale one to ten how hard was it ,and did you score a 31 your first time?

No harm in reviewing for it, even if you think it'll be a cakewalk. It's best to be on the safe side.

I don't remember it was 26 years ago.  My SAT scores were 800 math and 660 verbal.  I don't remember much from that either.  My GMAT was 700.  That one was fairly easy and I did read through the ARCO book.  On the ATC entrance test I scored a 91 and I also used the ARCO book for that.

I got a 30 my first try on the ACT.

I took the ACT after my Junior year in high school. The test seems to be designed to see what you know or have learned although some sections can be solved intuitively (science in particular).

It's always a good thing to study, but I'd focus more on math than any of the other sections if I were you.

Also, you are likely to move towards the average score the more you take the test, so try and do well the first time.

yea im planning on doing very good my first time so i plan on studying now but a lot of people (including my girl friend) says i should just take a swing at this one since i am just a junior and doing it my first time and if i do bad i can just do it senior year study and that time but they don't understand how its always better to do great on your first and you will possibly do better on the second

Is punctuation covered on the ACT?
Title: Re: Studying!!!
Post by: Min on March 23, 2010, 01:18:01 PM
Also...is the ACT free to take where you live?  I feel like you "just take a swing" at the practice test and then do WELL on the one that you have to pay for.

But maybe that's just me.  I grew up poor.

Yeah, you probably have to be there on time.

No its not free and are you asking if punctuation wont count against you on the english part cause it will u need to have
   1. Commas
   2. Apostrophes
   3. Semicolons
   4. Colons
   5. Parentheses and Dashes
   6. Periods, Question Marks, and Exclamation Points
the pay for the act for me was like 50 dollars to take

I would advise against the 'just take a swing' idea. Detta brings up a good point as far as having to pay for the test, but there are other reasons.

Hopefully, you will be applying for colleges early your Senior year. The colleges will need your ACT score to consider you for any scholarships that might be available.

I suppose that's also a money issue though.

How is it possible that you can suck this much at the very basics of the English language and still manage to pull good grades (with the exception of those three Cs)?

I weep for the future.

Or richer. Or older. But usually youthful exuberant "communists" are driven by the simple conviction that everything should be free.

This problem happens often but it's too expensive to fix it, so we simply recommend that you use caution when starting a thread.

well, not exactly commies, but socialists. hence the name "national socialist".

You might mention to Mr. Beck that the National Socialist platform was explicitly and specifically anti-communist.

People confuse Nazism, socialism and fascism with communism because the so-called communist regimes that arose in the last century are actually fascist/socialist totalitarian regimes, very different from real communism. So, if Mr. Beck had even a slightly larger brain, he might have said something like "It is ironic that so-called communists were one of Hitler's primary targets for elimination, because the communist regimes of the day were not entirely dissimilar to Hitler's regime. One may conclude that Hitler's beef with Stalin was more territorial than philosophical, and that his hatred for German communists arose purely from political rivalry, rather than a quibbling over annoying little things like human rights.  However, we must be clear that Nazism has nothing in common with real communism, which, after all, was envisioned as a self-governing society of free individuals. So my earlier statement that Nazis were a bunch of commies was clearly wrong, and I have decided to withdraw from the public sphere for the remainder of my days."

A test that you take in the Midwest to get into colleges generally from the Midwest because both the east and the west colleges i applied to didn't accept them. ACT stands for American College Testing.

Oh and it doesn't test you on your knowledge but on how fast you can learn.   :?
