Title: Religious Studies Assignment
Post by: john13dt on October 13, 2010, 12:52:15 PM
I have to get views on euthanasia from the public as part of my Religious Studies assignment. Could you please help me out by posting your views about euthanasia.

To clarify: when I think of euthanasia, I think you should go first.

Ok, I just realized you might be some kid and I effectively told you to go have someone kill you which I GUESS is kind of mean, so instead I'll answer your question:

I think euthanasia is a terrible necessity. People might disapprove of someone taking their own life (with assistance or not), but ultimately that person is the one subjectively experiencing their pain, and no one has should have the right to force someone to keep suffering if that person can consciously and of sound mind decide that they no longer want to live. Our bodies are our own.

This of course presupposes the person making the decision to die is in a sound mental state and old enough to understand what they're doing. Context would be critical.

I'm all for pre-emptive euthanasia.  Kill them before they become old and curmudgeonly.

You first.

I think euthanasia is OK, as long as it is controlled and people don't just use it as a way to get rid of family members that are becoming a burden.

This one falls into my staunchly pro-choice agenda.  I would not personally partake, but it is certainly the right of the individual to decide when they want to give up and take the big dirt nap, just like it's a woman's choice to get an abortion and a man's choice to pay for said procedure as an alternative to 18 years of child support, but I'm also for gender and racial equality in the truest sence of the term.

Sufferage killed chivalry and all that noise.

Question: Man wants an abortion, is willing to pay for it. Woman says no. Does the "right to chose" then benefit only the woman?

I think so... but in that situation I think the man should not be responsible for the baby after it is born.

You're saying a man who made a baby with a women can free himself of all responsibility just by wanting an abortion and the willingness to pay for said abortion?

Clearly that's what you're saying but I'm just surprised to hear it, I guess.

Post by: TerrorDronze on December 20, 2010, 12:26:02 PM
Yes, that is what I'm saying. It doesn't seem strange to me, I guess my opinions on things are just bizarre.
No, not particularly, as that's my take on it as well.  It is absolutely the woman's right to choose not to have the abortion, as it is the man's right not to have to pay child support if he has already offered to pay for the abortion.  The woman should not expect child support, just as the man should not expect visitation rights, nor should he be listed on the birth certificate.

Gender equality means just that, equality.  Just because you're male doesn't mean that family services should treat you like a villain.

I also think that violators of visitation rights should be harshly punished, as opposed to applauded...  but that's a discussion for another thread.

I keep thinking about the asshole who gets a girl pregnant and then, knowing full well she does not plan on having an abortion, offers to pay for the abortion so he can get off the hook.

Isn't this about euthanasia? Anyway, just to the devil's advocate, I think it would be a good comprimise for both sides to say euthanasia acceptable, however it must be euthanasia via anal sex. You'd have to really want it.

Why shouldn't atheists value life? Why shouldn't we, in fact, value life more than believers? I think we do.

If you had a dollar, and you knew that if you lost that dollar you would never get another one, wouldn't you value that dollar more than someone who has been promised an infinite supply of dollars?

How many times have we done this?

Egads! I'm sick of it, and I'll bet most of you are sick of these threads as well.

Luckily, I have a solution. It's simple. Just make a post... without a pun.

A PUNLESS POST!

Realistically speaking, we can't expect every post from now on to be pun-free, but surely we can all manage at least one.

Can you do it? Can any of you make even one post in this thread without resorting to some cheap-ass form of word-play involving plants?

Humor me, please. This is serious.
