Thanks for the link.  Looks like a pretty decent model to me.  So are you going to add a 'tip jar' to your site?

Something like that PB. We're investigating a couple of routes. There's a site called MusicLink.com (formely Fairtunes.com) that is nfp and exists solely so people can contribute to the artists who list with them. There's also Buskpay.com (for the youngens - busking is an old term for soliticing contributions - like the artists on the streets of NYC). Or there's PayPal, but I've read a few uncomplimentary things about the PayPal system.

Lol, Cyber - yes shit does happen, just not to me! ;)

I think we need a new business model for IP (intellectual property) anyhow, including music. Check out http://tipping.selfpromotion.com/?CF for an interesting article on "Tipping - a method for optimizing compensation for intellectual property." by Robert Woodhead. Makes sense to me. In fact, our band has decided we will always give our music away for free and simply ask people who like our music and want to hear more to make contributions to our recording projects. We don't play music to make a fortune - we write and perform because we love it. I'm sick of the music industry - because it's just that, a machine for making the big companies money. It's high time the real artists, those in the trenches, raise up in revolt and take the art of music back to the people where it belogns. Okay, I'm getting off my soapbox now... lol.

1. Law enforcement personel driving right up on the ass-end of my car (and I'm doing 5 miles over!) then passing me on a solid double yellow line. No lights - I doubt he was responding to a call because I see him stop at the next convenience store for a donut and coffee.

2. When the cork breaks and gets stuck in the wine bottle - 'cause then the only way to get to the wine is push it into the bottle and you get little pieces of cork floating around your glass.

3. The radio DJs who talk bullshit all morning instead of playing music.

4. The newscasts and newspapers. Objective my ass. They're owned by the government and big business.

Definitely not Zep DC. I played the tab Hob posted and it doesn't ring a bell with me. I have no clue.

I don't know of any other presentation software besides PowerPoint. I guess Flash could be considered an alternative presentation method.[/i]

That's not much to go on HG. Can you remember any other words? Or maybe what the song was about? Is it fast? Slow? Is it all guitar or does it have any keyboards? Acoustic? Electric?

Anarchy / Any guitar players here?
« on: September 18, 2002, 07:49:32 PM »
I used to have a sweet purple Ibanez. Sometimes when I switch between the Schecter and the Strat it takes me a few minutes to adjust. The Strat neck is narrower and the the frets deeper. I like BC Rich axes too. My bassist has a headless Kramer. It's a long, straight, narrow body with the tuning keys at the bottom - funniest looking thing. Especially when he plays it. He's a pretty big guy. It looks like a Ukelale (sp?) on him, lol.

I have a Schecter Diamond Series S1-Plus (Black Cherry finish), a black Fender Strat, and a Washburn Acoustic. I use two Marshall AVT150s on stage and a little Beringher UltraRoc for practice at home.

You don't like Les Pauls, Demo? I love their sound, but daaaamn, they're heavy, lol.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / DHTML Question
« on: September 18, 2002, 09:34:08 AM »
DSM -  aw shucks

Banshee - Well, yes, Java is platform independent. ASP is not. I work for a company called SpectraSite (the chapter 11 by the way is our parent holding company, not our operating company, so I'm still gainfully employed at present) and we're a M$ shop. All our servers are Win2K which IIS and ASP run on. We could still use Java, Perl, etc. as IIS supports CGI but we don't. One reason is because VB6 and InterDev are RAD tools (rapid application development). If I wanted to create a window container in Java, I'd have to write all the code to handle letting the user change the container (resize, change colors, handle mouse events, etc.). With the tools we use, these are intrinsic parts of the base classes, so we can get on to high level business rule programming instead of spending time on low-level object functionality.

ASP is a platform, not a language. An ASP page may consist of HTML/DHTML, javascript, vbscript and calls to the intrinsic ASP objects (written by M$ and running on the IIS web server) Request, QueryString, Response, etc. You can also utilize XML/XSLT, databinding and calls to other DLLs (like ADO or in-house components) on an ASP page. All of our business applications are web based. Our backend is SQL, our business layer (middle tier) componets are VB and the GUI is, of course, in ASP.

Your call Lacerda. It wouldn't let me register, of course, with just Phoenix. That's my stage name anyway, so it doesn't bother me to use it here.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / DHTML Question
« on: September 18, 2002, 08:12:21 AM »
Lol. Thanks for the thought DSM. I've got it working now. I changed it around so I only have to post one form, and call one ASP page, to update both drop down boxes. It doesn't adhere to our standards, but several things in this application don't... and I'm going to be rewritting it  in .NET next year anyway.

lol. Thanks Banshee. This is the Geekery right? While it may not make sense to you another programmer will understand. I still haven't gotten it to work.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / DHTML Question
« on: September 17, 2002, 03:55:05 PM »
Okay. I'm stumped. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

I have an ASP page that has two forms I need to post to update the options in two different select elements based on what the user selects in a third select element. I have two separate functions that perform the Form.submit()s. I was trying to use one event on the third select element to call both functions, i.e. <select ... onchange="updateOwner(); updateType();" ... /> If I comment out either one of the Form.submit()s it works fine, otherwise it will only execute the second submit. I tried having a different event call one of the functions (onchange="updateOwner();" onafterupdate="updateType();") but still only the second one executes.

Oh, and the reason I have to do a form.submit() and call another web page is that the values to populate the option list are database driven (SQL) and I have to call an in-house DLL (VB) to retreive the recordset. We don't connect to our backend directly from our ASP pages.

Help?

Yes, Banshee, I'm afraid so. And thanks.

DSM - I think they clone them and put them in every department in every company that IS has to write code for.
