Drunk highschoolers and expensive computers? Together? A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS!

In fact, it IS a recipe for success. When I was younger, I spent many nights drinking beer and playing Starcraft and Atomic Bomberman. (Starcraft while we were sober, when we couldn't count how many zerglings we had selected, then we switched to Atomic Bomberman -- that's an addictive game)

Maybe I should be thankful for:
- Surviving another year
- There is somebody in my father's side of the family who doesn't hate us.
- Economy seems to be going up here.
- Having a job that I like

Except that:
- Just surviving is no longer an accomplishment in an industrialised society
- Who am I kidding? They all hate us.
- Another lie -- and even if you believe that macro numbers mean anything to an individual, the growth in the economy is slowing too fast.
- A job I won't be able to keep for the rest of my life, because someday I will need to eat out of what I earn.

Whoa! I've been to Uruguay. Montevideo is a cool city. One look at Palacio Salvo and you'll want to stay. Plus they have chivitos and Viglietti. Go. Now.

I agree with everything, excepto for Viglietti.
Unfortunately, here to be considered a "good artist", you don't need any talent -- all you need is to agree with a certain ideology.

Edit:  Ohhhhh, I read to the end of the post this time.

That was a joke on Nitroviper, by the way.  Not me being mean to Wasabi.  I'm hoping that it didn't get misconstrued due to language.

I understood it :D

And now I think I know why that hectar thing. But I just can't find it funny. Genetic failure?

My argument is somewhat different.
I won't pay to play a game that has such good graphics.

I still play Alpha Centauri, and Starcraft. Those are good games. Also Europa Universalis II.

Now imagine how I feel: I have been enjoying unique and awesome music from Russia for many years now. Some of the stuff being produced there takes my breath away and leaves me speechless. But there is no interest in Russian rock anywhere in the world except in Russia. The Russian Grammies are televised only in Russia. People in the US and England laugh at the idea of Russian punk or Russian metal. You think YOU are bitter! HA! I out-bitter you by a turbillion!

Yeah, I think I understand it. I have listened to some great music from Russia, mainly because I just like surfing strange websites, and I really liked what I heard. The thing is, there is no way to even find a russian language music CD in Uruguay. Not even a pirated copy. You have to download it, and it's not as easy as downloading the latest hit from Britney Spears.
I also like some arab music -- same problems.

And think how the French feel -- try as they might, no one cares about French pop music. Of course, that is mostly because it's really awful.

I like Alizeé (well, I don't remember on which "e" I should put the accent). Except when she sings in English... her voice is not the same.
And, besides, she's really hot.

Luckily, Drexler doesn't live here in Uruguay. Luckily for him, I mean. I think he really deserves capital punishment for that awful crap he calls "music".

Anyway, "latin" is a term I really don't like. You can't just say "oh, well, all these countries speak Spanish, so they're all the same". Even countries that would look the same to an external observer, may be quite offended if you told them that. Take Perú and Chile. Many peruvians still hate Chile. That's because of a war they had more than a hundred years ago. Yes, sounds like they're overreacting, but anyway.
You can't say that Argentina and Colombia and Mexico are the same thing. They just aren't. They have different cultures, and that's pretty obvious to anyone.

Besides, all that "latin culture" feels pretty alien to me. I don't play the maracas, I don't listen to tropical music. I hate it when they try to stereotype me just because where I was born. Even more when the stereotype is actually unapplicable to my region.

Oh, well, that whole rant is probably impossible to understand. Sorry. Anyway, I will never understand, if this is a "music in Spanish" thing, why don't they give an award to Rata Blanca? I could also name some bands from Uruguay who would deserve it more than Drexler, but they're no known. Rata Blanca is a great band, it is quite well known (at least that's what I heard) in Europe -- but they're not commercial enough. NEvermind if their music is great -- they're just not "latin" enough.

EDIT: I think from dur-ril post that the nacionality of Rata Blanca was not clear. They're argentinians.

I have made files bigger than 4G -- images of whole filesystems. And that was just backup, not porn or piracy.

If God exists then I really don't like him.

I think looking around the news should give you a hint why.

but it's not his fault if we humans are this way. It's all our fault, he's perfect

(that's what most christians I know would answer)

And that's where their reasoning shows itself as completely flawed. Why is it that when something good happens, is god's work, and when something bad happens, it's man's fault? Either it is all the work of god (which kills free will, and thus denies half the Bible), or it is all the work of man, which means no god is necessary to explain things => Occam's razor => then there is no god.

Now, even considering that the Bible is right, and there is indeed a god, I would recommend reading Genesis. Focus on the original sin. It quite clearly states that not only we are morally equivalent to God, it also says we have his same capacities except for one thing. We cannot live forever. And that God denies us, so he can hold his power. Now, that's all in the Bible. So much for a loving god.

By the way, if you haven't noticed, I am an atheist. I even agree to some extent with Richard Dawkins' theory that religions are virus of the mind. But anyway, believe what you want; just don't try to convert me. And don't try to start an argument about it -- I will get involved.

Well, that was my scientific side speaking. I also have a poetic side that thinks that religions are worth only by their poetic legacy. Then, monotheism has been a real mistake on our part. So I invented for myself a nice polytheistic religion. I know it's all lies, but it is good to see the Moon and know She's guiding me :P

I also consider myself to be a discordianist, sometimes. So hail Eris!

It certainly is funny. But I cannot help being irritated when I read all those lies about the French being cowards. Come on, they produced some of the best soldiers and generals in history! Just because they lost quickly to Nazi Germany (and, BTW, if it had been the US instead of France, the result would have been the same) doesn't mean they're cowards.
