Do webcams have drivers?

Google sez... yes.

I have an HP laptop, and I've never had any trouble with the webcam.

Because it doesn't have one.

I'm sure HP tech support went through all this, but there are only so many things one can try.

First of all, did anything else recently happen on the laptop, besides the webcam failure? Like, did you upgrade from Vista to Win7 or something like that?

Did you try rebooting like a hundred times?

Did you try disabling and enabling the webcam like a hundred times?

Did you download and install the latest drivers for the webcam?

Is it under warranty?

Would it irritate the living hell out of you to buy and use a cheap usb webcam?

Have you considered Linux?

Saw these guys in... not sure, maybe '81 or '82 at the Roxy. It was the same era as the linked footage. I remember being blown away by the stage antics. The guitarist would go into a spastic frenzy during the chorus, while the bassist stood absolutely motionless, except for his fingers, staring off into space, while the percussionist ran around like a madman beating on cowbells and gongs and all sorts of percussive thingies, released from the drudgery of keeping a steady drum beat by virtue of a relentless drum machine. Never saw anything like that. And then there was Stan -- compelling and mesmerizing. Awesome live band.

Edit: Long Arm.

I mostly look back these days.

Saw these guys in '83 at a venue called Billy Barty's Roller Fantasy. Yes, it was owned and named after that Billy Barty. It was this big roller rink where you could listen to bands and, I guess, roller skate at the same time. At least I think there were people skating. It's a bit hazy now. Very surreal.

It's so hard to reply, what's going on with the website?

It's easy. You just put your lips together... and click the "Reply" button.

Quote
What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The West
Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech.  Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent.  And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.
Result Breakdown:
80% The West
77% The Midland
76% Boston
58% North Central
46% The Northeast
45% The Inland North
44% Philadelphia
30% The South

Not bad.

So... We're going to detect spammers by giving spammers our email addresses?

Maybe we should set up a hotmail account that we can all check, and delete it if it gets out of hand.

I wonder what Rebecca Black will have to say about that?

She'll have to change one or two lines, but other than that she's good.

And it looks like we're in for a ride until the spammer trap is back.

Yeah, I noticed that.

BTW, I clicked on that post when it was still in Flamer's Corner, and tried to reply to it with something appropriate, and got a big fat YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO POST REPLIES IN THIS FORUM and I'm like WHAT THE DOUBLE YOU EFF!

After a moment I realized you had balleeted it a moment before.

FWIW, I don't think the spamcatcher would've caught this guy anyway.

So, Where do you go for Pho? (I think this follow up question is an obvious choice haha)

I was going to ask you! I've had pho only a handful of times in the last decade. We don't get out to GG very often, but when we do we hit a few banh mi spots, get a bunch of them, try a few bites of each and have the rest for lunches. Can't do that with pho. But if you recommend a place, I'll try it the first chance I get.

The pate chaud at Au Cour is really good, too.

Try the meatball at Boulangerie Pierre on Brookhurst. Also try the meatball at Banh Mi Cho Cu, on Magnolia and Hazard (tiny little place). I can't decide which one I like better. My wife likes Pierre's.

Have you ever been to Au Cour de Paris on Edinger and Bushard? Sweet little place with great pastries and also good banh mi. I really like their iced coffee.

Where do you go for the best banh mi?

Not cheapest. Best.

A guy is driving around the back woods of Tennessee and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house:

Talking Dog for Sale

He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

"You talk?" he asks.

"Yes, I do," the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says "So, what's your story?"

"Well, I discovered this gift when I was still pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA about my gift, and in no time they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders. No one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.

"I was one of their most valuable spies eight years running. The jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger and I wanted to settle down. So I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security work, mostly wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings there and was awarded a batch of medals. Had a wife, a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired."

The guy is amazed.

He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog. The owner says, "Ten dollars."

The guy says, "This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?

The owner replies, "Eh, he's full of it. He never did any of that stuff."
