Vinyl is making a resurgence. Three of the last five recordings I have purchased have been on vinyl (with either an included CD or a download code for the digital media). I like this. It's fun to listen to records, plus the album art is much better, plus they can include zines, and then I get the digital files to boot! What a country!

Anyway I'm listening to the Watt From Pedro Show podcast from 3/10/10. It was from the day after I saw him at BOTH in SF. He said kind words about us, as did his tour mates, Lite.

Yep. Back when I was a kid we used to go and play outside. Our parents didn't worry because there wasn't a 24 hour media cycle preaching fear. OMG your children are going to be kidnapped, molesterized, and then killed. Here's a vivid example and we'll beat you over the head with it incessantly for weeks. What we won't do is mention that for every one kid this happens to there are billions that it doesn't.

Huh? I'm listening to the 3/21 show -- my iTunes thing must've skipped over 3/10. Must remedy.

Regarding vinyl: they will tear mine, still spinning, from my cold dead turntable. Which it was, for a while, until I got a replacement belt.

Chalk it up to an expensive (in time if not currency) lesson. Always back up your files to not only a duplicate drive but also to DVD or some other media that has more permanence. Our computer is in the shop now. (warranty work) but fortunately I have everything but the last couple of months backed up (and some things like Quicken I have backed up to at least the flash drive and my gmail from a couple days ago. Plus for music that I've ripped in the past couple months I at least have the original media (LP or CD)

My process is to back up each incremental month onto DVD, but I lapsed because I've been so busy at work lately. If they resurrect the HD it'll be the first thing I do this weekend.

Anyway if you'd like to keep some offsite backups for me in the event of a natural disaster here I could do another set of backups and snail mail them to you.
