Just checking boards and going to a music fest cancel each other out, don't they?

Not when one of the band's names is "endIf" and another performs songs about the Transformers and the Konami Code. :D

BOO paintball! Airsoft, w00!

Geeky thing? How about signing up for this forum, building a tower of doom with magnets, checking my spam (e-mail) every 2 minutes, watching a robotic dog wander around the room and figuring out my "hacker key" while eating cheerios naked at my desk while basking in deep red lighting (ceiling lights) at 5am.

Sleep is for the weak.

This one time I wrote some assembler routines to blanket-dial entire area codes using prototype fax/modem boards installed in 286 clones. I was trawling for fax numbers. That was back when there was only one published fax directory, and it only had 20K numbers, of which maybe 55% were valid. We found 100K working fax numbers using this setup -- we had around 150 of those machines dialing all night. You should've seen the phone bill. I also do a lot of yard work and gardening, and write bad poetry for effect.

I'm hooked on Evercrack, or for the rest of you Everquest. It's more addicting than meth. And I can't get enough.

Yeah, this forum is just geeky by itself. Aside from the fact that I'm just reading random definitions on Urbandictionary.com and trying to beat Heli Attack3 on miniclip. I really need a life.

I do! It's like they took D&D, flipped it upside down, shook it a bit, and told me to keep playing. Maybe I just need an understanding DM...lol

No, I think that's wrong.

You know what 3rd Edition D&D is?

3rd Edition D&D is a brand new Corvette being "passed off" as a 1964 Corvette Stingray.

It's shiny.  It's got all the latest nosehair clippers.  It's noisy.  It's fast.  It's got twice the horsepower.  Everybody drools over it.

But it still can't hold a candle to the '64.

In fact, one could even say it really isn't anything like the '64, except for the "Corvette" name.

"New and improved" doesn't automatically equate to "better".

That's why I play this.

Kenzer & Co. took that classic 1964 Corvette Stingray we know and love and put a wicked custom paintjob on it, some high-performance tires, tuned up the engine, installed a sick stereo system in it, and put on some personalized plates.

It drives and roars like the original car, and in most respects IS the original... but it's souped up and brought up-to-date without compromising what makes it a "classic".

If you like 1E or 2E, check it out.  :D

I ran AD&D for 16 years, and for the past three years, HackMaster has been my game of choice.

My players and I consider HackMaster to be "what 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons SHOULD have been".

Plenty of people enjoy 3rd Edition D&D... that's fine by me.

But as Jules says in Pulp Fiction, "well, sewer rat might taste like pumpkin pie, but I wouldn't know, because I wouldn't eat the filthy motherf*cker."

If they had called it anything else, say "D20 Fantasy", for example, I probably wouldn't object.

See, it's mostly the fact that they invented a wholly new game from scratch and then had the gall to call it "Dungeons & Dragons" that I take issue with.

Because of that, I won't touch it with a 10' pole, or any other D20 based game for that matter, just on principle.

Fortunately though, support for AD&D is alive and well.  It's just called "HackMaster" now.  :)

I'm considering trying that out, the only problem is I don't know anybody in the area that plays Hackmaster.

I didn't either.  So I started running it at my own table after convincing my regular players to give it a try.

It didn't take much convincing.  They were sold pretty much from the character creation process.  It was all downhill from there.
