I ment TV can be hypocritical, and is powered by a CRT vacuum tube, making the tube, in part, hypocritical. =P

QOTD:  Ever tell a lie that you have to keep up with?

At the risk of belabouring this genre of anecdote...

My teenage son and I were listening to some guy's rap about how music should be free or something like that, and I asked my son, "You like this?", just wanting to know, you know; and he said, "I like this part coming up right here, the la-la-la part." I listened intently to the brief sample and said, "That, my son, is a sample from a song by Iggy Pop and the Stooges called 'The Voyager' which was released fairly recently, about 5 years ago, or actually 1997 I think. Unfortunately, we only have LPs of the Stooges' earlier stuff, like Raw Power."

La, la, la, la, la-la-la-la
La, la, la, la, la-la-la-la

So son declares intent to download album containing said song from iTunes, and I said "Hang on, let me AMG it, see what album it's on...", and of course discover that I was egregiously wrong on all counts. The song is not called "The Voyager", but "The Passenger", and it is not by Iggy and the Stooges, but by Iggy Pop alone, and it was not released in 1997, but rather 20 years before that.

Oh well, my son didn't think any less of me, because I'm pretty hazy on just about everything. I retain facts for a while, but end up remembering only just enough to enable me to look up the facts again on Wikipedia. Whatever. The important things were that the song was by Iggy and the title had something to do with traveling. That's all I needed to AMG it.

But it struck me how different my real face is from the face I present on the internets. I would never, ever post a half-baked assortment of vague unfacts without first looking everything up and getting it all straight. So I'm sure I appear to be a lot smarter, quicker and infinitely more brilliant than I am in meatspace.

That's a lie I'm determined to keep up.

I'd say everyone's guilty of that one.  Most of us have an 'internet persona' which is more or less only existant within the confines of hyperspace.

I, however, am this cool all the time  ;)

My wife is the talkative one in person, but on the web she's very quiet.
