What Song Reminds You Of Your Childhood?
« on: June 08, 2006, 02:29:45 PM »

I don't know if this topic has been discussed yet, but I'm curious about your childhood songs. I have several, but I'll pick one song that's reflected my childhood deeply. I was listening to these songs on Napsterlinks, and thought I'd post them below.

King Harvest Has Surely Come, by The Band: http://www.napster.com/player/tracks/13366080

One of my favorites from childhood was Joy To The World by Three Dog Night.  I remember being at the pool club and getting excited whenever it would come on the radio.

Everything by Country Joe and the Fish. Everything by Jefferson Airplane. Everything by the Monkees. Everything by the Beatles. The Doors' first two albums ("The Doors" and "Strange Days"). "Stop In The Name Of Love" by the Supremes. At least I think it was the Supremes. "Classical Gas" by... uh... some guy. "Universal Soldier", "Hurdy Gurdy Man" and "Mellow Yellow" by Donovan. "Nights In White Satin" by the Moody Blues. "Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones.
That's just scratching the surface, and that's just until age 11. Don't get me started on what songs remind me of my teen years -- I'll be here all night.

Good call on the Monkees.  I loved that show as a kid.  I also remember loving Abba, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and Johnny Cash.  By the time I turned 12 I had a paper route and was then buying my own music.  The year was '78 and I was buying stuff by The Cars, Deep Purple, The Knack, Foreigner, and Cheap Trick.  Then I discovered FM radio and started to really rock out.  AC/DC, Zeppelin, Floyd, Black Sabbath, etc., and I discovered hardcore in 1982 when I first heard the Dead Kennedys.  The rest is history.

If we're talking early childhood: Slip Slidin' Away (not sure of the exact name) by Eddie Rabbitt(sp?), Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, The Oak Ridge Boys, The Statler (sp?) Brothers, Age of Aquarious (can't remember who sings it or if that's even the name of the song), Fortunate Son by CCR...I could go on and on and on.

Slip Slidin' Away was by Paul Simon.  Age of Aquarius was by The Fifth Dimension.

You're right, it was.  D'oh!  I was thinking of that one, but I was also thinking of I Love a Rainy Night by Eddie Rabbitt.

I turned 10 in 1991 and heard Smells Like Teen Spirt for the first time. My mom told me not to listen to it, so I did. Got me into everything that is rock. Aaahhh, the good old days....

Cool. I was 2 years old, when I tried to sing "Sitting On the Dock Of The Bay" by Otis Redding. It was so funny becasue I barely learned how to speak, and I tried to dictate the lyrics from hearing it. But the original song is better than my version of the song.

Senora by Harry Belafonte always reminds me of my childhood. It was from the movie Beetlejuice which I watched constantly.

Harry and his Folk Singers did a great album with drinking songs.  My dad had the vinyl and I listened to it a lot in college (I kinda borrowed it and never returned it, but I don't think the parents have a working turntable anymore so it's moot, right?)

Smurfenhouse.

It's the regular housy pop songs in the 90s, but then with (dutch) voices of smurfs singing own lyrics. My first touch to pop music. And I'm still addicted to house, allthough I've got a very broad music flavour. To be more precise, everything with a good tune (to me) is good music to me. I've got music from rock to rap to classic to pop to über soft pop to blues etc... which I listen to quite often.
