Mac software/tv shows online
« on: December 02, 2006, 09:01:57 PM »

Ahhhh, I feel like such a n00b. Please don't hate me for asking this.

I looked through the more recent threads but didn't find an answer.  I've been trying out different p2p software and nothing seems to get past my school's firewall.  I was wondering if anyone new of software for Mac that could work with that or else a general website...I know this all sounds kinda dumb, but downloading things is not something I know a lot about.  I'm mostly looking for a place to find tv shows online (not from the major networks--we're talking Buffy eps and the like).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No clue.  But now that I have a Mac, this could come in handy.  Where is Lady Metrosexual anyway?

I don't really use p2p software with the exception of Bit Torrent, and if you're looking to bypass a school firewall, you're probably out of luck.

I figured as much....but I also figured that if anyone knew how to do it, it would be one of you guys.  However, I have found some sites/youtube goodness:

http://peekvid.com/
http://tvrss.net/shows/

others require you to be a member and sign up for a dozen mailings and blah.

Yeah I just use BitTorrent or Limwire in a pinch.

Not to be an asshole or anything, but I agree with Lady Marmalade on this issue. If you're looking to bypass you school's firewall, it's probably not worth it.

My vote is on Bit Torrent, though. Especially if you get a good torrent with a lot seeders, you'll be downloading over 100 kb/sec easily.

Whenever I need to bypass a firewall I use the Googel proxy or use a translater to mess it up, but I wouldn't advise this on a school computer if you want to stay there (lots of places will apparently expell you for that nowadays).

Is there a good repository of torrents out there? I stopped using BitTorrent because all the sites I'd been using for torrents went under thanks to the RIAA/MPAA.

Scrapetorrent.com

It scrapes torrents from torrentspy, isohunt, piratebay, mininova, meganova (Some of the best sites out there)

Yeah, I think like a day after their computers were taken.

You know, since what the police did was illegal. (US Laws don't apply in Sweden, for those who didn't know.)

Torrents and other p2p related things don't work here, but I am going home tomorrow, so HA.

In the meantime, I stumbled across this little gem: http://www.veoh.com/
