Does anyone here play this game?
« on: February 11, 2009, 10:44:00 AM »

Cornhole, bags, bean toss it goes by several names but around here it's called cornhole.  Virtually anyone can play.

It's a simple game really.  Just throw a bag in a hole on a board.  It's been growing a lot in this region and I've played in several tournaments since last September.  I've been having a ball with it.

Oh and don't have the sound turned up loud if you're at work.  It's not really not safe for work but you may get some pretty strange looks when they shout out cornhole.

or here is a more down to earth explanation:

We do cornhole tournaments at work every summer.  It's good fun.

Also, if I'm a reliable metric, completely unknown in the West.

We play a similar game called washers around here. The game is essentially the same except we use large washers and aren't so far away. Scoring is exactly the same.

Washers has bee played around here for years also.  But there are many variations of the board/hole used.

ivan the last two years the King of Cornhole tournament has been played in Las Vegas.  I think it is starting in parts of California also.  It is believed to have originated in this general area.  Ohio to be more specific.  But lately everybody and their brother are having tournaments virtually every weekend.  I've been doing some small ones this winter at the local VFW to get new blood into the game.

My son and a friend of his have been playing for about three years now.  When they started they of course had me build them some boards and the wife make some bags.  I of course had to make a set for myself at the time.  Mine set until people came over and I never really got into it.  That is until my son and his friend decided to start putting on tournaments.  After I got my ass handed to me in the first one,  I decided that this is something that I could do better at.  Since then I've been playing every chance I get.

Beware though.  This game can become an addiction.

Another popular game here - well... growing in popularity - is horse balls.  Yes.  Horse. Balls.

I learned from Michael Pollan the origin of the term.

I kind of wish I hadn't.
