A/V club people wanted
« on: November 05, 2007, 09:26:38 PM »

So i work at my school on the theater crew and while choreographing a sword fight my friend hit a home made light saber out of my hand. Now this thing weighs maybe 3 pounds. The "blade part is made of pipe insulation that was taped and painted over. Now as this thing flew out of my hand it hit the projection screen at my schools auditorium. Now this thing is old, but its been fine. As the head guy over there would say, "Its older then God". Now I'm stuck with having to have an idea on how to repair this big lump of $6000 screen by Thursday. I don't know what its made out of and who it was made by but i'm gonna ask the office for any documents concerning the purchase. Now the screen itself when i touched it almost felt like cardboard paper in thickness and the "white side" of it actually felt like paper. Any ideas how to repair it, and with as low of a cost as possible?

Now?

I'd suggest sail tape.

You should be able to get it at any marine supply store.

How about any useful guides that would tell me what kind of material it is since no one has any idea over there. We don't seem to have records that are older then god(1972) and there probably wouldn't be any "because this is a public school"

Duct tape. Put it on the back side of the screen; across the tear. Done right it's totally invisible (in front).

actually, we used gaff tape, but the problem is that its not only a tear, but its really badly bent and wrinkled at one part. We tried doing that, but it looks bad and in general a "dent" can be seen. Another thing, its one of those that rolls up into a box over it and we cant have something to thick behind it or to sticky since that can also cause problems. But i gotta check on that because I'm not sure whether it rolls up to the point since the rip is fairly low on it (about 19 feet below the box when fully unraveled)
