Being shot and killed by a cop is a violation of your constitutional right to due process, therefore the police should not be allowed to carry lethal weapons.
You can find buttloads of stories about cops busting into the wrong house, some of which result in exchange of fire between them and the innocent resident, and some of those result in the death of that resident. And those are the honest mistakes.

This is also my main argument against the death penalty. The state should not be empowered to take the lives of its citizens.

I'll agree to take the guns away from police officers as soon as you can guarantee that criminals no longer have guns.

I can't disagree with your comment about officers violating the homes/rights of the innocent. That is a shame. What you can't find, however, is news of officers drawing their weapons an not firing because the mere presence of the weapon was sufficient to disarm the suspected criminal. Dog bites man is not a news story.

If hurricane Katrina could have taught the nation anything, I would hope that the lesson was, "Government can't." -- As in government can't do anything better than an individual can do for himself (with limited exceptions of course).

From what little I've seen of prison it seems that locking a person up like that will destroy a life just as sure as a bullet will.

No, it's more a case of needing those who watch the watchers actually to do their jobs.

Cops shouldn't get a free pass for failing to follow procedure and for failing to respect the rights of individuals. But they're also a critical part of the criminal justice system.

Americans have the right to bear arms. Police officers are Americans. Are they not subject to the second ammendment like everyone else?

This is one reason why I am all for cops having tazers.

Sure, they may get taze-happy on kids asking questions to presidential candidates, but I'd rather be accidently tazed than accidently killed.

That's a good point. I had been against tasers because I think since they're (usually) non-lethal; they'll tase your ass for any or no reason. But you have a point there.

What I want is four bear arms in addition to my two human arms, but the second amendment only says I have the right two bear arms.
