I'm living in AMERICA (see, the shift key DOES indeed work!)... and here, although we have many candidates running for president initially, after the primaries, many candidates drop out, and we are generally left with ONE candidate from each party.  I believe, in fact, that you can see that happening now, as Romney just dropped out, leaving, I believe only John McCain and Mike Huckabee as Republican candidates.

If you will travel back a few years, you will remember the TWO (or "both" if i may) major-party candidates (apart from write in and non-main party candidates) in the final vote; Bush & Kerry.  So, if you do not agree with Bush OR Kerry, or rather don't think they would make good leaders, I would say that you should not vote for Bush OR Kerry... let's get this straight - I strongly believe in voting in the primaries...

oh, and another thingfor BizB... the link you supplied lists many candidates...many of whom are NOT (shift key still works) currently running.

What he was getting at is that voting does not have to be a reactive process. It can become a proactive process by informing yourself and making an educated decision for the election at hand. You do not have to fall in line with the majority when you vote. Your vote may end up not doing much, but that one educated vote for someone who most likely will not win speaks volumes more then a vote influenced by a TV commercial for a majority party member.

i agree...and that's why i initially said that it brings up an interesting question of whether not to vote, or to write in a candidate.  i never said i was against write-ins...

however, i believe that there comes a time when it is acceptable, if not morally obligatory, to not vote.

i never said i was against write-ins...

It seems you may have NonWrite-inist tendencies (that you are unaware of) that conflict with your desire to be perceived as a Write-inist..

Given the fact that it remains unSHIFTED that there is still a WIDE ARRAY of CHOICES other than the "MAJOR TWO",
(FYI- the link above is indeed current, the 'dropouts' are NOT listed)
not voting at all seems to me a far - out - there proposition.

I think that the only way for a 'non vote' to become meaningful would be if they were to include a "I think you all suck" option as a valid selection on the ballots.

ok, but do you really want someone who is not up to date with politics and votes simply based on their party  to cast a vote?

and i said that i believe there is a time when it is ACCEPTABLE to not vote.  i also believe there is a time when it is acceptable to write in.

There is no valid reason for not voting.  There are, however, plenty of excuses.

Excuses are like assholes.

If none of the candidates are up to your standards, then you owe it to yourself to go and write in "None of the above" because that, like a vote for a minor-candidate with no chance of winning actually sends a message.  Staying home, however, could mean that you don't care or that you're too sick to vote or a myriad other things.  Staying home means not being heard at all.

Ok, so I will agree that writing in is a better alternative to not voting.

So, in short...
ivan was right.
We love ivan.
ivan += 1 Coolio point

All hail ivan!

Of course, that wouldn't have been nearly as entertaining nor would it have spurred additional conversation.  Welcome to the joint... stick around.  At least you're a thinking individual.

I am going to vote Ivan bad, even though he was right. I'm just doing it to be edgy and cool and not go with the masses.

If I had to choose, I'd have to go with VSUBs.
