Anarchy / Launch page
« on: October 23, 2004, 03:15:21 PM »
Launch page: [origin: intarweb] 1) A simple html page that contains, at a minimum, a list of links for sites that you frequent.  2) What, the first definition wasn't good enough?

Do you have a launch page?

I'm considering creating a new type of wes bite that's primary purpose would be to serve as a customizable launch page and I'd like to guage the interest for such a creature.

If your goal is to take over the desktop computing arena stripping that title from the almighty Microsoft, where would you go?

Well, if you're Red Hat, you hire a VP away from another desktop arena juggernaut, Sun.

http://informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=50500448

You know, since Sun released its own desktop platform and stole such a huge market share from Microsoft, it only makes sense.

"Sun has a desktop platform?" you ask?
Certainly, they do.  Doesn't everyone know that?

Sometimes, people do things that just make you go, "Huh?"

Anarchy / I used to believe...
« on: October 01, 2004, 06:35:09 PM »
Inspired by this site.

I used to believe that my teacher was a movie star.

In 6th grade, my teacher was a 26 or 27 year old HOTTIE.  I swore she must have a job as a movie star and she was "researching a role."

For the record:  6th grade teachers should be fat people over the age of 60.  Concentrating is hard enough with spontaneous erections, never mind cause/effect erections.

Anarchy / What would Pepe do?
« on: October 01, 2004, 01:33:09 PM »
Pepe moved into a new apartment last year.  When he was setting up his furniture, he placed his telephone on the table and instinctively looked for a jack into which he could shove the end of the cord.  There, behind the table was the all too familiar square box providing the exact receptacle that he desired.  Shortly after Pepe plugged in his phone, it rang.  "Odd," he thought, "I haven't even called the phone company to set up service, yet."  When he picked up the phone, there was nobody there.

Pepe is really creative and got the operator to tell him what number makes the phone ring.
Pepe has never received a bill for his use of this service, nor has he ever received a wrong number call.
He doesn't know who the provider is.  He has his suspicions, but can't be certain.

Should Pepe call the phone company/companies and tell them?

Food is good, but some food is better than others.

What are some foods that you like that others might find odd?

I like buttered-toast with ketchup on it.

Political Opinions / Million Muslim March
« on: September 19, 2004, 08:55:23 AM »
Where is it?

I'm not familiar with the structure of this particular religious organization, so forgive me if I'm way out of line here.  I assume that it isn't one of hierarchal design like the Catholic church.  But, at the same time, I believe that it would be easy for the Catholics or the Baptists or even the JWs to organize a march or, somehow, make it clear that they wish to denounce a group that is giving their religion a bad name.  The message that America is getting trough the silence of the Islamic community is one of acceptance.  To wit, everything that these Islamic fundamentalists are doing in an effort to advance their cause is okay.

Are Middle-East-Muslims still (justifiably) upset about the way they were treated after 9/11?
Is making a statement on behalf of the religion frowned upon?
Are the specific branches of Islam that are causing the problems so fringe that they're not even really recoginzed by the centrists of the religion?
Have the leadership made what they feel are sufficient statements denouncing the acts that were just never properly covered by the media?

For the love of Pepe, if we're going to do anything anti-Saudi-Arabia, it should be for the 15 highjackers being Saudi, not for the fact that they don't allow freedom of religion.

September 15th will be the day that lived in infamy, eh.

After that, there will be no more NHL.

Do you think the Canadians will start a new league and do it right?

I  wonder...

Could the post office get away with residential delivery every other day?  Have you ever wondered why we get mail on Saturday?  Who authorized that?  Would you be satisfied with every other day delivery of first-class mail and once-per-week delivery for less than first-class?  Of course, your priority and express mail would still be delivered as timely as possible.

What are the drawbacks?  What do you get via postal service that is so important that it couldn't wait another day?
