Too bad that website really isn't as kinky as the name would lead you to believe.

Hear hear.
Although I wouldn't hold my breath. The sports make money for the school. Nothing else brings in comparable funds; so, chances are it'll always be that way.

Yeah, I know.  Before I got here, my school was slowly bleeding to death.  The new president instituted a plan to get it going again.  It came in two phases.  1: Build up the sports programs to boost enrollment.  2: Use the money from the boost in enrollment to fix up the academics.  It seems to be working except for the fact that many of the athletes who come here to play D3 sports aren't the brightest.  It's annoying to be at school with people who don't want to learn.  They just want to play sports and drink.  I'm all for saving the school I'm at; I just wonder when sports and academics became so intertwined that one needs the other to continue.

I've got a course to bitch about later.  I've got to go off to class right now.  Before I leave though, my school offers a class called "Football Theory."  There's a similar course for basketball.  I think both are aimed at people who come to a $30K+ per year school to become high school coaches.  I've got a grudge against people who go to college to play sports.  If you're one of those people, don't take it personally.  I'm just bitter about how funds are distributed in schools.

Tweek when I was your age I was going to two to three concerts a week.  Dude you are unencumbered with responsibility right now, run wild!

Tell that to my boss, professors and student adviser.  While you're at it, tell that to my bank account.  Actually, I did have a chance to see a free Bruce Springsteen concert tonight at a rally in Ypsilanti.  I'm not one for political rallies though.

Oh, and a bit of an update on my concert plans: Oasis is playing at the Palace of Auburn Hills on December 13.  I got two floor seats for $75 a piece.  Expensive, but whatever.  I really enjoyed the show I got to see three years ago, figured I'd see them again while I have the chance.

Been to any recently?

I've been in college for just over 2 years but haven't really seen any concerts.  That is until last night, when I got to see Sigur Rós play in Detroit.  Afterward, I got to meet the band (the singer is nuts) and get 3 CDs fully autographed.

Ten minutes ago I ordered tickets to see Dungen in Ann Arbor.  My new goal for the next couple of years is to average 1 concert every 2 months.

Has anyone else been to a concert recently?

If you were on a bus with a Christian, a Jew, and a jihadist Muslim; which do YOU think is most likely to blow the fucking bus up? Nobody is "singling out" Islam but radicals themselves. That's not enough to take them seriously?

A loaded question and a poor one.  Jihad doesn't mean to go out and slaughter Christians.  Some people take it to mean that and they end up being the ones who get the press.  I wonder why?   If you'd asked "If you were on a bus with a Christian, a Jew, and follower of Islam; which do YOU think is most likely to blow the fucking bus up?"  I'd say that all are equally capable.  The militant groups that attack in Islam's name aren't true followers.  They're idiots.

To start with; there are many other threads here discussing the shortcomings of other religions besides Islam (mainly Christianity), so I fail to see how you gather that Islam is being 'singled out'. Secondly, violence IS the concern most non-Muslims have against Islamist extremist; there aren't many reports of casualties from Christian or Jewish suicide bombers or militias, or Christian or Jewish training camps teaching the how-to's of violence and war.

I'm sorry.  I've been here for a whole ten minutes.  I haven't gotten around to every thread on the boards.  I know there is concern over "Islamist extremists."  I didn't grow up fearing commies.  I grew up fearing those freedom hating terrorists.

Also, Islam is the only religion (that Im aware of) that still - today in 2008 - openly says non-believers should be killed; and follows through on their beliefs.

That was the point I was trying to make in my last post.  Christians and Jews ARE believers.  They believe in ONE god (minus that who trinity thing some Christians go on about).  True Islam leaves room for tolerance.  Jews have historically lived better under Islamic rule than Christian rule.

So, just because other religions are capable of putting out violent fanatics; we should just leave the militants alone to kill us in peace? Is that what you're saying?

That's exactly what I'm saying.  You read me like a book, but you missed the part where I tried to point out that Islam and terrorism aren't the same thing.  Extremists exist and just because they get the spotlight doesn't mean all followers should get a bad name.  Extremist misrepresent the message in a horrible way.

This is a simplification, but Benazir Bhutto argues that militant aggression is due to a misinterpretation of the Qur'an.  All believers in monotheism, Jews, Christians, and followers of Islam are all Muslims ('Muslim' meaning "one who submits" to God).  All follow the same god, but the message the Jews received is suppsedly distorted, and the Christians messed up too.  Islam is an attempt to create a definitive message from god by putting it into Arabic and keeping it that way.

As has been said, all religions are capable of putting out violent fanatics.  Why should Islam be singled out?

I catch up on sleep.  I work at campus safety at my school.  In the summer our shifts are 8 hours and there are people on duty 24/7.  Right now I'm in the middle of a marathon (8 hours on, 8 off, 4 on, 4 off, 8 on, 8 off, 8 on, 16 off, 8 on). That's 36 hours working out of 72.  It wouldn't be so bad if the Vicodin I'm on didn't make me want to sleep.

My normal schedule is a lot better, but I ended up trading shifts to get a lot of free time earlier this week.  I used it to take my girlfriend to the Toledo Zoo.  Then I sliced off my finger tip while cooking and spent a long time in the ER waiting for my blood to clot.

National pride links Kosovo to Serbia's national identity. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Kosovo

Also, I think that eventually people begin to ask the question, "What's a makes a group a separate 'nationality' with rights to self rule?"  The idea of nation and the state existing together causes a lot of problems.  I blame Wilson.

I didn't enjoy playing FF with lots of strangers this year.  I'm willing to play again if we can get a bunch of people who will opt into the $20 Amazon gift.  I don't expect to win, but it adds something to the competition.

Carl Levin, head of the Senate Armed Services Committee, will be speaking at my school this Sunday. -  Link

At the end there will be time for a few questions.  I'm hoping to get a chance and I want to make it good.  My current favourite - "Are you aware that if we cut the 2007 defense budget by one sixth, we could afford to by every man, woman, and child in the United States and Nintendo Wii?"

Any suggestions on a good question?

1) Sony Ericsson W3001: Not that I could find.  Of course, my favourite source for phone information doesn't even list a "Sony Ericsson W3001"

2) All marriages are failures

C) Re: Ron Paul...:  No.  In order to do that, Ron would have to be elected President.  That won't happen.  Everyone knows that Newt will be our next president.  Well, Newt or Hillary or that one guy that starred on Law and Order cause everyone knows his name.

Let me fix my first question - Is random shutdown common for Sony Ericsson W300i phones?

Dude check your email.  HNFF season six drafts tomorrow and you've been AWOL.

I have, but I've got way too much going right now to handle a FF team every week.  Sorry, but I'm out for the season.

I found it rather funny.  Few admit it, but even the people who share his view point (and probably he himself) prefer sex (not just for procreation) in positions other than missionary.  The positions he'd probably deem "perverted."  Very few people live up to the standards they wish to impose upon everyone else... The homophobic undertone throughout the film was a nice touch.  Playing upon parent's fears of raising gay children was a real classy move.

I read Cnet's article the other day.  I support Digg users standing up to the DMCA on this one.  It's good to see the people running the site (especially Kevin Rose) respond to their users so well.  If Digg dies, I'd hardly notice, but this should be as fun to watch as the drama surrounding the Pirate Bay's fight.

I finished with The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists: A Novel about a week ago.  Definitely worth it.  I'm thinking about moving onto The Pirates! In an Adventure with Communists: A Novel next.

I've got a fifth of Absolut vodka with me, and about most of a fifth of Beefeater gin.  I plan on making some jelloshots when I get home.  If the vodka survives this weekend that is.  I'm stuck at school until Sunday to play for graduation, but I'm done with exams at 11am Friday.

Really, I'm just making up for an extreme lack of fun this year.  I only had a few nights of partying.

47
If I totally missed something it's cause I'm distracted.  I've got an hour until my next exam and I'm waiting for a delivery of some gin.

I've always preferred content to length.

Best advice I ever got:

Your papers should be like a women's skirt.  Long enough to cover the subject, short enough to keep it interesting.

I just had to completely revise 3.5 pages of one of the essays.  I fucked it up big time.  I've got an easy to follow outline for putting it together in the morning.  I also have 5 pages of handwritten material for the other essay.  Overall, each paper will probably deserve an A- to B+ before the markdown for lateness.  I'm not worried.  Even with failing both papers I'd still pass each class with a D or C.  I'm just worried my GPA will fall too much if I do.  I need a 3.3 to maintain my scholarship.  I'm good for now, but I can't afford to much of a slippage or I'm fucked.
