Taxes WILL BE higher and they'll complain that they can't pay their taxes.  So I'll have to help with that too!!

Yeah, I get that.  I'm not a fan of the gov taking as much as they do out of my measly retail paycheck when I think about the people who don't deserve my help through my hard-earned paycheck.  Is that bitter and terrible?  There are people who are getting help they both need and deserve through this money...it just feels like it doesn't balance out.

I think the elderly and disabled should get some sort of assistance.  But the lazy and drug addicted are on their own.

I agree with the bit about "the lazy".  I'm not sure how I feel about the bit about the drug addicted.  Just wondering- what about people with eating disorders? What do you think?

I might see 1 or 2 of those...besides the fact that the majority don't sound interesting to me, I also cannot afford to see so many just to see a bunch of movies.  I'm interested in how The Golden Compass will turn out.  I heard they are making all three...the second book lagged and the third felt rushed, as though Pullman tried to pack in as much as he could with as little depth as possible.  Character-wise anyway...kind of like X-3...Anyways, the Beatles movie thing looks like fun.

I'm getting an awwww, ehhhhhhh feeling from that.  Every time I see a pigeon I just want to kick it.

Ahhhh, wikipedia.  The place where anyone can add "information" as they please.  That's probably the funniest thing I've seen all day...dare I ask how you came across it?

Just piss on an electric fence.

Actually, the mythbusters busted that one.  Not enough electricity would be sent back through the stream to kill or even annoy you.  If enough electricity could be mustered to do that, just being near it would be enough, let alone peeing on it.

That is outstanding.  Creepy, but hilarious.

And not the first time I've seen something like that. Ohhh, ambiguously gay Legolas....

Yah.  I usually go every year, and I'm going to the NY Renfaire this weekend so I thought I'd ask if anyone else here did that sort of thing.

Anybody here go to renfaires?

Yeesh...when I watched the one where he "cried" I thought it was a chick with bad eyeliner, turns out he's got some other issues...like this obsessive need for attention.  BizB, the second link you posted doesn't work, the person who posted the video took it down.  It's interesting how much blame everyone's willing to put on everyone but the person who made the choice to perform.  It gets translated into everyday life like this:  Be like Britney, and you will not have to deal with any negative consequences, because there won't be any.  It's not your fault, it's everyone else's.

Granted, she was going through some rough stuff that everyone felt the need to record, which hey, not cool, I'm on board, but you know what?  This is why we have things like therapy.  I'm a fan of therapy, I think if you find the right kind of therapist for whatever therapy you need, it can be incredibly beneficial, regardless of what's happening in your life.  I feel bad for her kids.  She chose this life for herself, they didn't.

It's amazing what passes for news.

Death Masks by Jim Butcher, number 5 in the Dresden Files.  Very entertaining books, great tv show...why sci fi canceled that and kept on Painkiller Jane, I do not understand.  I also recently read the first (and as of now, only) 3 books in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordin.  They're kids' books which ups the awesome factor on them.  I think Riordin was (or maybe is...?) a middle school teacher and a mystery writer, which explains his style and understanding of middle school kids.  Pretty good stuff.

You need that much speaker so you can roll through the hood blasting Weird Al.

concur.

Also, my friend has a matrix, it's a few years old (so obviously not the same model), but she loves it.  I've driven it a few times and didn't die/crash, so...

Yay for a new car!!

I too prefer "carry on", mostly because I have a weird obsession with Project Runway and Tim Gunn has made "Carry on" his catch phrase (along with "Make it work").

Flamer's Corner / Re: The 'Let's Bitch About Our Jobs' thread.
« on: August 30, 2007, 04:54:23 PM »
I figure my first post after summer break ought to be one involving my job.

I work at a bookstore, in the children's section.

This summer, I have seen my share of women changing their babies in the middle of the kids' section (hello, what if it's a boy and it pees all over the books while you're doing this???  That's not what we mean when we say flood insurance).  The worst I'd say is finding a used diaper "shelved" among books, as though our store is one giant garbage can.  We have bathrooms with changing tables, so what's the big? I have no qualms with women breast feeding in public, but take your kid's shit somewhere else.  There are two women in particular who insist on changing their little girls in our dept at least once a week, and see nothing wrong with this.  We keep telling them there are bathrooms for it, but they don't seem to get it.  Quite frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the bathrooms are cleaner than the kid's dept.

A few favourite customer quotes:

"Do these books go anywhere in particular?"

"Do you carry Scholastic books?  If so, where are they kept?"

"I'm looking for a book without words.  Where are those?"

"I see this computer terminal says 'employees only'; I don't work here, can I just check my email real quick?" -->we don't have internet access

Didja miss me?  :-D
