New build
« on: August 20, 2012, 07:25:52 AM »

OK fellow geeks and previous HNers, I need a little help. I put a new build together over last week and finished up last night. The kicker is Windows won't load, and my CPU is overheating. I got a new case and put in a new mobo, processor (with fan), power supply & video card. Then I put in my optical drives and hard drive from my other computer. When I start it up the ASUS bios screen will load up fine. It shows my CPU fan is on, but the temp on the CPU keeps climbing. Everything else seems green. When I bypass the bios screen Windows starts, but it will kick off. The machine then reboots and I get a mesage saying Windows failed to boot properly and I can either Auto Repair, or try again. Auto Repair does nothing and if I let it try again the same thing happens. Can anyone give me any ideas/pointers? Thanks.

It may be that you just got a bad batch of thermal paste, you may want to start there, as it could explain the failure to move the heat out as quickly as needed.
