It depends for me.  When my sister and I used to travel, the rule was that whoever was driving got control of the radio.  I liked driving then, of course because she listens to the worst music ever.  But we'd switch off every few hours or so.

Now when I travel with Enrique, he insists that he can drive the whole way.  We don't have that same rule, but he usually has control of the radio anyway.  So I get bored.  I'd like to get a book on tape or something, but the ride to NJ isn't long enough.  So I guess I like to be passenger because I can go to sleep.

Allow me to clarify my first answer: No matter who's available to drive, no matter the distance, no matter the vehicle, no matter who controls the radio, no matter the destination, no matter my physical, mental or emotional state -- Driver.

After years of self-analysis, I have determined that this particular hangup of mine is rooted in my fear of losing control of my own destiny.

NASCAR drivers don't even drive from the track to the airport.  They all take helicopters for that.  I doubt that they drive much at all.

They take helicopters because of the insane traffic.  Well, that's one reason anyway.  You've been stuck in NASCAR traffic before, haven't you?

When they go furniture shopping, I wonder if their wives say, "I'll drive honey...you drive like a fucking maniac".

Yes, I've been stuck in NASCAR traffic on roads that were designed for horse and buggies 100 years ago and have barely been updated since.

MIS is out in the middle of nowhere in Michigan.

As for the QOTD, I can't be the passenger - I get car sick.  I can't sleep in the car.  I can't read in the car.  I can't ride in the back seat for any period of time.  I have to be either driver, or shotgun and I have to be paying attention as if I were driving even if I'm not.  Otherwise - HURRRRRL!
