Geek, that's a great selected songs you got. I love Queen now, and hated them when I was a kid. But when I first heard "It's A Kind Of Magic" on the radio last year, I had no idea that it was Queen. I really got attached to this song quickly. I still love the song after a year of hearing it on & off. I think I love Freddie's singing and the harmony parts that were done there. I also heard this song in a Showtime TV Series, Queer As Folk. This song was played under a scene of Justin drawing something he sees, and then the episode fades out and the song continues through the credits. I loved how they fit this song in there because it really fit the mood of what was going on during a mellow scene.

Horse with No Name by America.

Was my dad's fave.  He'd listen to it in the '80 Thunderbird in the 8-track player.

Three songs go together that remind me of my childhood.

Before my parents got divorced, we used to go to the beach every summer, and I can distinctly remember these three songs playing on the boardwalk when they were fighting and I was ignoring them.

"Walking on the Sun" by Smashmouth, "Tubthumper" by Chumbawumba and "The Impression that I Get" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

I was born in the 1980s, so I think Walking on Sunshine comes to mind.

When I saw this thread title, my first thought was "You Are My Sunshine", but I think the focus is a little later in the childhoods than I thought.  That said, I think I'd have to go with "Fun, Fun, Fun" by the Beach Boys.

Well "You Are My Sunshine" is one of those generic ones...everyone sings that to their kids. We want variety...

Soo many of them. Born in 1987, so uh here goes:
Pearl Jam - Jeremy, Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit, Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine, R.E.M. - It's the end of the world as we know it(and i feel fine), and Metallica all stick out as early memories.

I think I see a trend here....

(Technically, "Cop Killer" was done by Body Count who Ice T was the frontman for. I only mention this for the hoards of members who are desperately trying to find it.  :-D  )

Body Count is pretty cool live.  I saw them with Suicidal Tendencies way back in the day.

I can honestly (thankfully?) say I have never, at least cognitively, even heard walking on sunshine. Childhood... I listened to alot of"classical" in all of it's forums. Of course, Bing, as any good irish boy would do; our Gael-Mheiriceánach cousins shore'n made us proud etc... listened to alot of that in the late 40's, 50's... some of the same vein was John McCormack, Josef Locke, and then I started that slippery little down path from Sinatra and Martin to Louis Armstrong, and the early bop boys. Art Tatum and Gillespie and Charlie Parker and Lester Young and Teddy Edwards grabbed me by the bollocks and pulled me waaaay down, and of course around that time I also got into the blues in a very heavy way indeed.

As the sixties came on, I could refer to ivan's selections. I was for a while very much a clinger-on to the underground scene, and I was at alot of the original Pink Floyd Sound concerts, mostly because I did drugs with that crowd at the tiiiime, being the long haired irish expat DIRTY HIPPY I was. Also was quite enamored with the stones, Sun Ra, Eire Apparent, the Soft Machine. And the cycle came full circle to the jazz and classics I was raised on, and now play.

If a song had to remind me of childhood, however... it would be BMV 903. One of those irrascable Bach peices that my nazi (litarerally) of a piano instructer drilled into my brain and out of my fingers with an ebony cane and strange foreign curses. The peice is of course Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue in D minor, and was one of the first Bach peices I was drilled on, along with the Well Tempered Clavier and the Goldbergs, of course. However, going from basic scales and such at age 5 all of a sudden to 79 measures for the fantasia, 161 for the fugue at age 6... trauma. The sort that sticks with you.

<----- produced in the eighties

That's not my favourite song of theirs, but they do kick ass. "I Wish I was Queer So I could Get Chicks" and "All YOur Friends are MAke Believe" are better.

And Discovery Channel. And Pacman on Crack.

Pretty Much all their songs are awesome.

I don't know the title, but I love the one that goes:

Come on party people,
throw your hands in the air.
Come on party people,
like you just don't care.

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire.
The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire.
The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire.
We don't need no water, let the motherfucker burn.
Burn, motherfucker, burn.

Meanwhile, he sounds depressed and the tempo is slow as hell. I love it.
