Being Sick
« on: January 07, 2007, 01:33:46 PM »

Sucks.

I was unfortunate enough to contract some sort of illness this past week which has made me pretty sick. High temperature, stuffy nose, headaches, and a sore throat. Basically, the works. The first night I had this cold, I couldn't sleep. I was up until about 6 in the morning trying to go to sleep, but couldn't because it felt like I couldn't breathe. Maybe it was also because I took Dayquil at about 12 that night.

What do you guys take/do when you're sick? What have you found to really help ease the symptoms of the common cold? Right now I'm taking Mucinex and Singulair along with a good amount of lying around doing nothing, which is a rare thing for me.

I've been sick for the past week, myself. I drink lots of water and hot tea, make sure I'm taking my vitamins, and take as few drugs as I can to be able to still function. Oh, and lots of sleep.

Altoids mints. Lots of Altoids mints and caffeine. Although the caffeine might not help as much for anyone who consumes it regularly. Over the last year, I completely cut caffeine from my diet so it works great for me. I also try to eat more than I regularly would.

I drink orange juice, sleep a lot, and generally try to be in denial about it as much as possible because it makes me feel better.

It seems like the majority of us are sick right now. What the hell?

I would consume lots of things that contain vitamin C, however, they are a bit scarce around here at the moment. Like Cat said, I am trying to consume lots of water to stay hydrated.

Orange juice is your friend. I find that if I actually rest (as oppose to playing online games all day long while sick), I will recuperate quicker. BUt where's the fun in that? hehe!

Lots of fluids, vitamins and rest is pretty much the only thing you can do. You can also take cold medication to help with symptoms. Oh, when I have fevers I take like 3 showers a day. But that's just because I like to stand there under the hot water. I feel better for like half and hour, then I feel crappy again.

I take a multi-vitamin (for men ...=no extra Iron) every day. I started years ago, and have fallen out of the habit a few times, but I have noticed when I AM taking it regularly, I *NEVER* get sick. Evar. By contrast, every time I've gotten sick in the past few years was when I had NOT been taking them regularly. So... file that however ya like.  :-)

I love getting really bad colds that knock you on your ass for a week. Nothing to do but sit on the couch and watch cartoons. The only complaint I had last time I was sick was the boards seemed slower than usual. I love the feeling of my brain only working half-cocked...you aren't expected to remember anything or even be the slightest bit coherent, it's like a practice run at senility! I can't wait for the simple madness of old age...what better reward for a lifetime of toil and strife than a nightmarish little trip before the peaceful nap of Slack Eternal?

I don't know about the weather where anyone else is, but it has been unseasonably warm lately, and then it goes cold for a few days. I think the weird weather changes are affecting everyone's ability to fight off illness. And yeah, everyone I know is sick too.

I don't get that either. It was about 70 here the other day, and here I am now about 35 miles north of where I usually am living and it's about 35 degrees outside during the day. It's like a weather roller coaster and we're just on for the ride.

I think we're on an express elevator to hell, if you ask me.

According to a report I read, the temperature change is due to El Nino pushing the jet stream farther North, causing the warm air normally pushed south to rise up with it.

When I was a restaurant manager, one of my cooks had a nickname Nino.  He was a joker, so several times a day I'd hear "Pinche Nino" (oh and those should have the tildes on them but I forgot the code).

I think I am the only person left on the planet right now that is not sick.

And I wil state right now, for the record, I had nothing to do with that.

Nobody around here (work or family) is sick.  But I have a friend who is still sick from spending the holidays in the DC area, where his nieces infected him.

I'm not sick, either.

Do you feel compelled to drive toward a small shack of a house in the middle of a corn field where an old black lady sits in a rocking chair, too?

I'm feeling a pull towards Las Vegas myself.

That was just on some bland cable channel on Sunday....
