Time for the semi-annual defrag! Fire up the disk defragmenter utility and get told "Hey, you should defrag this drive." Ok, go for it. About twenty minutes later I get the "All done!" notice. So I reanalyze the drive I just defragged and get told "Hey, you should defrag this drive." I JUST DID THAT! Took it about four defrags to get it all nice and blue\green again. One machine down, 150+ more to go. This is gonna be a fun day.

Many years ago before I was in IT the IT Guy where I worked used to run defrags and scan disks to fix just about every problem. The worst part was that he would sit there and watch them. The entire time. I can't stand waiting for a program to install so I have no idea how he could handle it. Course he wasn't very good which I guess would be part of it.

We had a tech back when I worked at The Pit that would pop in a Compaq System Restore CD and then just sit there and stare at the damn thing for about an hour and a half waiting for it to finish. Screw actually letting it do its thing while you work on some memory installs or video card upgrades. Being productive is for suckas.

Well knowing how reliable Compaqs are, he was probably making sure nothing went wrong during the system restore.

Compaq 7470. Fuck them. Half of the time the System Restore CD they included wouldn't work because it was the wrong CD for that system. They left the factory with the wrong fucking restore CD shipped. Goodness forbid you ever bought one of the white model 5000 series units. Those were horrible. But still, no competent technician just stares at a screen when there are plenty of other units you could be working on right next the damn thing that is doing the restore.

Two weeks ago, I started my new job as a blackjack dealer in some fancy casino. For the most part, it's enjoyable, but there are definitely a few things that make me want to scream. Here's my continuously growing list of things I'm starting to hate about this job:

1) I wish people would realize I have no control over the cards that come out of my shoe. Rest assured, magical powers over the chance of card combinations is not a prerequisite to getting hired as a dealer.
2) I don't WANT you to lose. Does it look like I keep that money? Guests are drunk. Drunken guests who lose get angry. Angry drunk people are NOT fun!
3) I love how I'm a "sweet, little girl" when an older man sits at the table, but when he leaves because he's lost, I suddenly become a "dumb bitch."
4) Half the time when you lose, it's not just because you have bad cards... it's because you don't know how to play. HEY LOSER DON'T SPLIT TENS WHEN I HAVE A TEN SHOWING!
5) Don't tell me you've got kids at home to feed to "motivate" me to give you good cards while you're gambling $300 per hand. I might actually want you to lose for being such a pathetic excuse for a person. Go feed your kids, I didn't make you come here to gamble.
6) Quit touching my cards! I get in trouble when you do it, so when you want to split, just put the god damn money down and move your hand away.
7) I'm tired of people who keep trying to cheat. It's a casino, they actually spend weeks training us to watch for that, you fucktard.

Eh, my list is longer but I still have to go to work tonight- it's best to not remind myself about all the bad things before going there, heh.

So it would appear I will be posting here a little less in the coming days. I'm saying this here because it has to do with work.

My dumbass manager fired one of my best auditors and told my supervisor, "Yeah sure, you can take this week off." Meanwhile the other auditor is ALSO going to be gone for TWO weeks because he's in the reserves. So she looks at me like, "Oops", and calls Dumb-Fucks-R-Us and hires a dumb-fuck-trainee for me to train while there is no one else on shift. So for the next week it will be me doing one half of the audit while training the on the other half, while one the bitchiest groups are in house (they come every year and for that they expect to be treated as gods even though they're not paying shit).

By the way, to everyone working in the technical support field:
Don't get an attitude with me just because you know what you're talking about and I don't. I'm trying to learn how to not have this shit happen again, so if I ask a bunch of questions it's because I'm trying to understand. I know it's seems annoying to you who already knows this shit, but sighing into the receiver and telling me, "Why don't you just call support again if it happens again?" is not helping. It's being an ass. I don't want to have to call support for every little glitch, I'd like to know how to prevent it from happening in the first place, and fix it myself should it happen again.

I personally love these calls. That is of course when I actually do know what I'm talking about and am not just reading off a doc I found on our website. They allow me to stay busy and on the phone while all the hard cases roll in with people who know more than me demanding a solution.
