They're most likely employing either filtering on their proxy server(s) or are blocking certain scripts (Java/AJAX) from running within IE via a GPO.

The "nothing to do" line is likely being returned by the script interpreter because some function is being blocked.  That's the kind of error message a lot of scripting languages return.

Bingo. That somehow rings the most true.

How do you suspect the function is being blocked?

Yep.. Most likely it's one script returning that when some other script it's calling is being blocked from running.

It's not that I mind coming in to work on Saturday, it's the surprise bonus features that like to show up that really irritates me.

:-D "This is awesome! The config file updates went great, downtime was less than expected and I can go home early."

 "Hey, Xolik, I'm the server room AC system. Guess what? I'm going down, fucker. Hope you like overheating machines!"

  "WHY?"

:-D "Here you go, guys. You're very own sandbox server. Complete with an exact copy of your production SQL databases. Go nuts!'

 :-) - "Thank you, Xolik!"

*one week later*

:-( - "Hey, Xolik, we just ran a custom query and it looped and ate up all our disk space by causing the tempdb file to grow and grow and grow. Production is down!"

:-D - "I noticed. I got paged a few minutes ago and am working on fixing that. I'll have to bump everybody off for a minute. How did this query perform in test when you tried it out there first?"

:-( - "We didn't try it out on test."

:x - "May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits."

Why the hell would you not use the test environment to try out SQL queries first? Especially joins? /sigh

ALWAYS MAKE A GODDAM COPY.

Yeah, baby, here we go!

Select * into dbo.MainTable_w from dbo.MainTable

GO
Do a bunch of stuff, do a bunch of stuff, do a bunch of stuff -- ok, done, now get rid of the work table...

Drop table dbo.MainTable

GO

HOLY FUCKING SHIT I JUST DROPPED THE MAIN GODDAM TABLE!!!!!!

...Test server? We have a test server?

Ok, this has never happened to me, but I do have nightmares.

I'm going to complain about someone else's employer.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,498666,00.html

"Microsoft says some of the 1,400 employees it laid off last month accidentally got too much in their severance packages -- and now it wants the money back."

You know. Because of the economic crunch. Those unemployed people can get by easier than the Microsoft Corporation; since it's earnings are "down":

"...On Jan. 22, the day the layoffs were announced, Microsoft reported its net income for the Oct.-Dec. 2008 quarter was down 11 percent from a year previously, but was still a healthy $4.17 billion."

$4.17 Billion ...  that's NET (not gross) for one quarter (not the entire year). How do you make 4.17 BILLION dollars PROFIT in three months; but lay people off? And then have the audacity to ask them to return an 'overpayment mistake'. I understand it's MS's money; but jeez...  they already paid the money out; and its not like the company NEEDS the money back. I could see if it was the employees' choice to leave under some agreement; and that amount was wrong. But a layoff isn't like that at all. I would wager nearly all those employees would happily return the money if they HAD A FUCKING INCOME NOW.

How much did they get paid in total? Did they receive 6 months pay when they got let go?

It didn't say in the first article, but they've reconsidered:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,498666,00.html

"The company reversed course late Monday and said the laid-off workers could keep the extra payouts.

Lisa Brummel, Microsoft's senior vice president for human resources, said the letters were mailed to 25 of the 1,400 people let go in January and that most of the checks were off by about $4,000 to $5,000.

Brummel called most of the 25 laid-off employees Monday to personally tell them Microsoft would not seek repayment after all.

"I decided it didn't quite feel right," she said in an interview.

And lo, did the prophet Xolik tell all who would listen that yea, verily "Layoffs a'coming!" but they would not listen. "Be ye at all idiotic meetings that management dictates, else ye appear shiftless and lazy!" Again, they would not listen and did not show up at "How to better communicate via tongue clicks and strange gestures" and other such "mission critical" nonsense. Management did take note of who did not appear and were displeased.

Thus when the first round of layoffs were announced and the prophet Xolik turned into the Grim Reaper of User Accounts, the multitudes did gnash their teeth and rend their garments.

And the whole point of this story is this: I told you fucking fucks that they were looking for any, ANY reason to lay people off and told you all to start making yourselves visible at these idiotic fucking meetings, but NOOOOOOOOOO you didn't listen.

They're looking at eliminating a few positions here also.  I'm firing up the "change the user account password and turn off door access" script.

What I don't like is the way some people think you'll know ahead of time who's on the block.  Course the smarter people are just doing their usual good jobs and not wasting time trying to suck up to me.

8-) - "Hey, it's Xolik. Listen, you've gone and added a bunch of computers to the domain with screwed up names. They're all gibberish. Find the machines you joined and rename them properly, ok?"

- "How do I find these computers?"

:x - "How the fuck should I know? You're the one that joined them to the domain!"

Stupid faculty traveling to Ethiopia and coming back with flash drives stuffed with viruses causing me to have to run around and fix registry entries in WinXP

Stupid virus writer for setting up your virus to cause windows to log off immediately when logging in, even when booting into safe mode, and stupid MS for making it so I can't fix the registry key, even when I know what one is wrong, from the frickin recovery console.  What use it the damn recovery console when I can't change the damn key referencing the wrong damn thing
