So we changed the radio station in the restuarant to soft mix because the southern morons around here couldn't handle classical Japanese.
Then people complained that the music wasn't atmospheric, so the chef and I fucked with them and played hard rock for a few days.
Then the manager caught on and switch it back to soft mix. Then they complained again, so she switched it to classical instrumental Vietnamese, because that's what she is.

I love working for a small, family run business.
We played reggae for one Friday night, but now its permanently stuck on NPR. Which I actually don't mind that much, but damn people, stop complaining about it and eat your goddamn food.

One of the things I miss about working for a family-owned BBQ place was our musical freedom. Us employees were really the only ones who complained. Think 10 different Christmas songs on repeat from open to close for weeks straight. *shudder*

Boss - "I just got an email from my wife saying Microsoft is testing out a new email client and they're paying you $240 per email you forward. Said it was on the Today show this morning. I'm making a hotmail account right now to try it out! We're gonna get rich! Let me know ASAP when you find it!"

This happened to me this week.

My Client's Vendor: We need an FTP server so we can transfer data to you!

My Client: (to me) I need you to set up an FTP server for $vendor!

Me: *sets up a vanilla FTP server*

Vendor: NO! We need an SFTP server!

I should probably add, if you're faced with a similar situation, where you've set up FTP on IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008, and you figure "hey, I know, this thingy has FTP over SSL built into it!", you should probably know that that won't work if there are firewalls in between, regardless of your port forwarding rules, unless you turn off encryption.

Which, of course, defeats the purpose of FTP over SSL.

Also, if you then decide, "well, I can set up Cygwin/OpenSSHD for Windows/freeSSHD on Server 2008 instead", you should be aware that all three of those products on Server 2008 result in EPIC FAIL.

After wasting 5 hours on FTP over SSL yesterday afternoon (only to find out that it can't work), and 4.5 hours today on trying to set up a Windows Server 2008 box as a simple SSH server for SFTP purposes, I finally just gave up. I changed the port on our firewall to point to my local Linux workstation and configured SSHD on it and created an account for the aforementioned vendor to use.

That last part took me 5 minutes and worked perfectly on the first try.

I'm kinda understanding how you felt, now. What started out as a two server project has now ballooned to six servers thanks to the people in charge of figuring out requirements not bothering to contact anybody in I.T. and going cheap.
