The fact that he's working food service is even more impressive. Nothing but respect for my fellow food service breathren (even though I now work for a software firm, I still put in my 20 years of food service).

I was a dishwasher for a few weeks and I nearly lost my mind. I was eventually losing my mind so I quit. I now have a temporary job until I can pass the medical exam to join the reserves.

I was a dish washer for 2 1/2 years in hike-skool. After that I swore I would never work in the food service industry again. But I'll tell you I was a damn good dish washer.

Food service isn't that bad; It's just the hours that start getting to you, and the fact that no matter what, you're going to have work to do because people never stop eating and shopping. Where do they get all this money is beyond me, but it keeps me employed so I don't care if they're up to their necks in debt.

Just a theory:

Theoretically speaking, if one was able to take two small trash cans (full), put them just inside the office door, take two large post-its and a marker and take the time to label said cans "Trash-put in hall", one would, theoretically, have the time to put said cans in said hall...no? What, too good to put the damn cans in the hall?

I know it's a little thing, but sometimes I just cannot stand our species.

This morning at work I was greeted to this nice, big, hot cup of Stupid.

User: I'm getting this message when I open $app that says "Only one admin user can be logged in at a time" and then it kicks me out.

Me: Are other users logged into this program?

User: Yes, Jane is.

Me: Does Jane's account have admin rights in this application?

User: Yep, the same rights my account has.

Me: And when you have her log out that didn't fix it?

User: Uh... I didn't have her log out. Why would that make any difference?

Me: Because the error message you're getting says that only one admin user can be logged in at a time.

User: Well I didn't get this error yesterday!

Me: Was Jane logged in yesterday?

User: No, she was out sick yesterday.

Me: Then that's probably why.

User: But that doesn't make sense.

Me: Have Jane log out of $app and you'll be able to log into it.

User: That won't work!

Me: I'm pretty sure it will.

User: Okay, hang on.

User: ...

User: Okay, she's logged out. I'll try logging in.

Me: Ok.

User: It worked!

Me: All right. The next time that happens, try having Jane log out and that should do it.

User: No, I still think there's something else going on here. If this happens again I'll call you guys.

Me: No, the reason it wouldn't let you log in with your administrative account was because Jane was logged into it with hers. If that happens again, check to see if Jane's logged in and if she is, have her log out. If she's not and you still get that message, THEN call us.

User: Well I don't think that has anything to do with it.

Me: Sure.

I would read it as trash that you found in the hall.

But I don't know why you would bring it into the office. If you had left it in the hall someone may have emptied it.

Now had you said Put this trash in the hall...

Funny.

They were full, supposed to be put in the hall to be emptied, but rather than do that, someone put the cans together inside the office, labeled them, then

. I figure, you have enough time to do that, the hall isn't more than 2 feet away. Honestly, is it that hard to drag them into the hallway? (which I did when I opened the office this morning even though it should have been done last night as per maintenance). At least I left the pile marked "Trash/Recycling" where it was (on a chair, also in the office). I'm not sure he/she whoever did this understands that there is a difference.

I love having my pager go off first thing in the morning telling me one of the blade servers failed. This will be the start of a glorious weekend for sure!

*UPDATE*

A few hours later the HP guy shows up, tears the thing apart, slaps in a new system board starts to rebuild it and says "oops, I brought the wrong board. Whelp, guess I need to go back and get the right one. Be back in an hour."

That was three hours ago and he's still not back.

My all-time favourite went like this:

User: I can't get logged onto the terminal server!

Me: What happens when you try?

User: It says "The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct then type your password again."

Me: Are you using the correct password?

User: No.

Me: Try using the correct password.

User: OMG THAT WORKED! Thanks!
