Here's the argument I've been having with management for the past year and a half or so.

Them: Clients are complaining about hold times and turnaround time for requests.

Me: That's because we need more staff.

Them: No, that can't be it.

Me: *crunches numbers, shows management irrefutable data demonstrating how understaffed we are*

Them: *dismisses irrefutable data without so much as a glance*

Them: I think your processes are inefficient.

Me: You told me that my department's goal is to focus on quality, not efficiency. For that we need more staff.

Them: You need to be efficient AND have high quality.

Me: *finds ways of squeezing every last drop of efficiency out of rapidly-burning-out staff members*

Them: Clients are complaining still.

Me: We need more staff.

Them: Must be something else. The phone system or call routing or something.

Me: *streamlines the phone system, smooths out call routing*

Them: Clients are still complaining.

Me: That's because we need more staff.

Them: No, that can't be it. Fix our ticketing system.

Me: Our ticketing system is already working perfectly. Clients enter tickets. We enter tickets. We complete them.

Them: Clients are complaining even more now.

Me: Have we added staff?

Them: No.

Me: We need more staff.

Them: No we don't.

Me: *crunches more numbers, shows management even MORE irrefutable data demonstrating how we're even more understaffed than before*

Them: Bah. That doesn't mean anything.

Them: Clients are now complaining that we need more staff.

Me:

Them: They're saying "you don't have enough staff to keep up with requests/issues".

Me: That's because we need more staff.

Them: No, that can't be it. It's probably the phone system.

Me:

Repeat ad nauseum.

Business owners and operators are only getting cheaper and more dirt bagish as the years go on. Expect to try and do more and more with less and less as time goes on.

BTW, In an effort to save money on web hosting, I plan on taking out all images from all of my sites starting next week. I also plan on moving to an older, yet still robust web server utilizing an old Pentium I processor with 64 megs of ram and 1 gig of disk space, connected to the internet with a 56k analog modem.

Okay, I'm sorry, but if you're too STUPID to navigate our incredibly simple phone system, I have absolutely no sympathy for you that nobody got back to you about this incredibly urgent problem.

You left a voice mail on some mailbox that has absolutely nothing to do with the services we provide you. In fact, considering that it was removed from our autoattendant greeting over a year ago (and the mailbox itself just hasn't been deleted yet), I'm not even sure how you got to it (except by mashing phone buttons, obviously).

So your stupid problem didn't get resolved. Good. Maybe next time you'll use some common sense instead of just mashing buttons and leaving your all-so-important message in a mailbox nobody checks.
