I just had a cyberpower battery back-up unit explode, taking out some of my gear with it! It was supposed to protect my equipment from surges and black-outs. It seemed to be doing that, until... it burst into flames. Thankfully, I was near-by, so I was able to stop it from turning into a disaster, but it was still really scary. Now I don't know what to do. I have no idea why it did this. I have not heard of anything like this happening before. Has anyone else? The thing just started surging (I assume, because my equipment started gasping and clacking as it turned on and off), and then sparks started shooting out of it, and it was smoking and smelly. What a mess! I am afraid to replace it, if this is something that can happen. On the other hand, I have a lot of very touchy equipment (a little less after this ordeal), and I need to ensure clean and reliable power. Any ideas?
