The "joke" (if it even meets that standard) is having the same name/same location (but OBVIOUSLY IS NOT MISSING); not that there's a child missing.
Furthermore; if MY child was missing, and someone in the UK mentioned her (such as I did here in the US) and her story; I would be elated that people WORLDWIDE are aware of my baby's name and status; and are mentioning/talking about her in everyday conversation.
I understand where you're coming from with your post; I feel the same any time a child is hurt or missing.
Doesn't mean I'm going vow to never mention them.
Irreverence tends to get more done anyway.
