Can anybody help me?
« on: September 07, 2007, 12:29:06 AM »

I'm Chris. I really want to post in the technology section, but the button isn't there. Anyway, my question is this. If there are any good electronics people or anything, I'd like to make an AC ethernet bridge. Basically, it networks your original wiring, but it tends to cost quite a bit for the adapters and you need at least two. Could anybody teach me how to make one? Here is a link to the product if you're still confused:

http://www.netgear.com/Products/PowerlineNetworking/PowerlineEthernetAdapters/XE102.aspx

Thank you!

I was still confused so I followed your link.  Now, I'm able to tell you how to build one.

Here's what you need:
Parts List
  • 1
EDIT: This is part #                        At radio shack
  • 3 small
  • 2
  • Some
  • *

*Optional item but it makes seeing the connection strength so much easier

Now, assembling it would be just as you'd suspect.  First, you need to put the

.  Next, assuming you have a solder gun:

If you don't have one, you can always                                                                             (but don't let it get too hot!)

. (lol just kidding about that last part)  Finally, in order to get it to fit correctly into the housing, you'll want to

                                                                    .

There, see.  Easy peasy lemon squeezey!

As far as i know, network through power cables works crappy at best. I've only seen it done once, but there were so many lost/incomplete packs that it was pretty much unusable, and from what i read on the net that happens usualy.

Can't you just get a wireless router/ access point and a wireless card? Or if that is not an option (too much interference or too much iron in the walls), just put ethernet cable, with a little effort you can hide them quite well.
