I walked out of my house a little before 7 am today because I had to go to work, which is the only reason I will ever leave my house before 7 am. Across the street and a few houses down was a black truck with some dumb flame design painted on the side. This is called foreshadowing.

As I was unlocking my bike, Mr. Truck decided it would be a capital idea to lay on his horn a few times, presumably to get someone out of the house. Since it was before 7 am and I was outside, I locked eyes with the man and glared at him with all my muster. I'm tired now because I'm out of muster. Anyway, he looked away, and then seconds later drove off, which was even more annoying. So I guess this was important enough to disturb everyone but not important enough for him to wait?

How much of a douche are you that you can't a) use a cell phone or b) walk two goddamn steps and use a doorbell and so instead have to try your hardest to wake up everyone nearby? Find a man whose truck has stupid flame designs on the side and ask him, for he knows. Oh, he knows.

If you're going to bug me every day to send thank you cards, quit sending me shit. And if it truely is your friends bugging you (yeah right) for me to send them a thank you card...tell THEM to quit sending me shit!

I got married. My mother in law bugged me and bugged me about the thank you cards. Fine, I'm bad at it, and they had to go out. Then Havana was born and my MIL's friends all send stuff. And she bugged me to send thank yous. Then Havana got baptized. More thank you cards. Now Andrew was born and I gotta send out thank you cards. I've been filling out thank you cards constantly for the past three years!

I don't think I've ever sent someone a gift expecting a thank you card. I've never thought twice about it. No doubt it is a nice gesture. But geeez, I'll get it done when I get it done. She mentioned it to Enrique three times this week! ARGH!!!!!!

I know I'm bad. I know I'm lazy. I know I don't really want to do it. I know it's my fault and I need to do it.

But do you realize I have two children under the age of two? I get up 2-3 times a night. SEVEN. Seven is the record that stands right now. I had to get up seven times one night. Then I get no break during the day until the older munchkin goes to bed at 7:30, then I cook and eat dinner. Thank you cards isn't the most pressing thing for me right now.

I guess I wasn't done.

I can only speak for myself (legally, this is a thing in Canada where lawyers have explicitly told me I'm not allowed to speak for the country in any kind of international capacity), but I have never once ever ever said "Where's my thank you card?"

When I'm giving someone a gift, it's because I want them to enjoy something or celebrate something or put the spycam I've installed in their gift somewhere. It's not to receive thanks. That just seems like giving a gift with an expectation. Is it rude if someone just snatches a gift and doesn't say anything at all? Sure, and I'll think twice about giving them something again.

I know you're kind of stuck in a difficult position because you don't want to disrespect the MIL, but it sounds to me like she's kind of control-freak buttface who needs something to do. Send her a card that says "Thanks for stressing me out during the formative years of my children's lives" and then hire a hitman if she gives you any more trouble.

I think she thinks her friends are sitting around thinking "where's my thank you card?" and she's embarrassed that I haven't sent them. But again...same thing. Thanks for stressing me out indeed!

Finally got those stupid thank you cards done. I ordered the ones from shutterfly that you can put pictures on and a personalized message. Less writing for me = good. I wrote a little note in each one and Enrique addressed the envelopes.

Aaaanyway, I just found a PM from an old HNer from a few months after Havana was born. He had sent a gift. Here's the first line of his note: "Hey Min - got your thank you note - very unnecessary. I know how busy you must be as a new mom."

JUST SAYING.

Oh but apparently one of my MIL's friends has been asking about her thank you card. What kind of friend is that? I guess that is causing MIL stress so she has to pass it onto me. It makes sense. I just don't understand people like that.

Imagine working from 6am till 9:30pm (often later) with no breaks. And your number one fan at your job screams at you all day.

I kick him sometimes in the night to get him up. But the kid usually won't go back to sleep unless I feed him. He won't take the bottle. So it's usually not much use to wake up the hub. And if he takes a sick day, he'll have to do the work on the weekend anyway so it's the same.

But anyway.....he took a 45 minute nap and I had fun tub time with the girl. Just what I needed to calm the heck down.

The same things happen every day but some days I just handle really badly. I guess hormones fluctuate and determine if I'm a mess or if I laugh it off. I would like to sleep again someday though. Someday.

I had that job a few years ago. I was able to quit it, though.

I love the people that say "Sleep when the baby sleeps" and what about a baby that wakes up within 5 minutes of being put down eh?

We have a 2 week old kicking around the house right now so I can sympathize. Right now I'm coding for my class (really, working hard) and keeping baby from fussing so the Mrs can get some sleep. Since we're doing the breastfeeding thing I'll have to wake wifey at some point but I can try to keep baby sleeping as long as possible. Still pretty new at this but we seem to be hitting some kind of rhythm where we trade off coverage. Course we can double team coverage since we only have the one.

Anywho hang in there and definitely let the the hubby when to take the baby away for a couple of hours.
