What headphones should I buy?
« on: March 10, 2009, 11:51:38 PM »

I'm decision challenged.

Which set of headphones should I get and why?

I listen mostly to rock and classical.

I'm sorry, but the number you have dialed is imaginary. Please rotate the phone by 90 degrees and try again.

Sennheiser HD 650, if you -neeeed- open backed headphones.

Exquisite 'phones. It's brings out the "Holy shit!" in Johann Michael Bach, which most people don't realize is even there.

The Sennheisers, all the way.  A friend of mine has an older set and they rock incredibly hard whether you're listening to Iron Maiden or Rachmaninoff.

This may sound strange, and I'm only adding it because it's on the top of my head right now, and I'm neck deep in surround sound imaging work, but if you really want to hear your music well - don't just get the nice headphones, turn off the lights. Every light. Once you shut off your visual senses, you're going to find that you'll be able to pick up a whole new depth to what you're listening to. It's something you should really try, as soon as you pick up some good 'phones.
