When I was but a wee tyke in the erstwhile SU, I lived near a major RR yard. Outbound trains would cruise slowly through the tangle of switches, then gradually build up speed once clear of them. This one summer, about a mile out, construction crews left huge piles of sand next to the tracks. So we'd hop on the freight cars just as they were starting to speed up, climb to the top and jump off into the sand dunes. The exciting part was, if you didn't climb up fast enough or have the yarbles to jump, you'd probably end up in Kiev.

Hey, we didn't have no Six Flags or nothing.

No fricken clue, but it reminds me of the time my friend lived in Japan for a year, and kept on complaining about how many suicides-by-train there actually are (as well as being delayed by a couple).

We get several dozen suicides and or accidents a year on the Caltrain tracks.  A lot of them happen in Palo Alto.
