Can someone help me with a pc question?
« on: May 24, 2010, 09:22:08 PM »

I just built a new pc with a 3.36ghz quad core i7, 12gb of ram, and dual gtx 260s. Will it play all games at max settings, or at least most? Did i choose good parts?

It stands for gigahertz (one billion periods per second) it's how fast it can process information.

(one billion periods per second)

I'd say it has its hands full without needing to play games for you.

Not that kind of periods, you sillies.  He means dots, like dot-com or dot-Seurat.  It can handle one billion dots per second, so it could render one of those fancy paintings or lots of wesbites.

I think your computer will just be super duper. You'll see.

Yes. I'm for real. The computer and calculate 3.36 billion points of data per second per core. Allowing it to calculate 13,440,000,000 points of data per second.

Assuming you meant the computer can calculate blah blah, can is the operative word. Finding a game that can take advantage of all your cores is going to be the tricky part.

Wait. You spent that kind of money on hardware and yet you're not sure of what exactly it can do? That's a very strong setup. What operating system are you using to try and take advantage of 12 gigs of ram? Please don't say something like Windows XP Pro...

I know a good bit about computers just not much about graphics cards. I got the ram for heavy HD video editing. I'm really just curious if I picked good graphics cards. It's running windows 7.

You didn't think to do the research on graphics cards before you picked them out? Did you just grab the one with the highest numbers associated with it and go, "well I like it."

If you haven't run a game on it yet and found out for yourself, then I am suspicious of you, more so than I was at the beginning of this thread, so I shall reply as BizB did.

I, too, spend lots of money on things before researching them.
