Looks like Obama made it to a major party candidate. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24944453/)

I still don't know what to make of the dude, though.  :|

For some reason I keep getting these calls at the house from the Republican National Committee, so I decide to answer one, and the first question they ask is "Who is the greater threat to America:  Hilary Clinton or Barack Obama?"
So I asked him how often he beat his wife.

Holy shit, did they actually do that? We had some RNC guy call us up at home the other day, actually. I told him "Buddy, you are so barking up the wrong tree, you have NO idea."

Clinton?

He can't. His whole campaign was about OMG CHANGE. Making Clinton the VP is basically saying "Yeah, I was bullshitting about the whole change thing. Status Quo AHOY!"

It'll have to be somebody not as, uh, 'established' as Hillary.

Not to mention, picking Clinton as a VP doesn't help him in any swing states (NY is a shoe-in already for him).

A better choice for Obama VP would be Jim Webb or Bill Richardson.

It's already been well reported that Obama's told Hillary "Hell NO". And not that my opinion counts (being Canadian), but I think that's the right answer not only for the reasons stated above, but because she (and her camp) dragged this shit out way past the point of reason, and she shouldn't be rewarded for it.

A better choice for Obama VP would be Jim Webb or Bill Richardson.

Just like Al Gore! *runs*

Who?

Exactly. A relatively unknown running mate would be his best choice.

Apparently the governor of my state (Arizona) is one (of many) names on the list: Janet Napolitano.  She'd bring in the females, the hispanics, the west, and possibly some of the more centrist Republicans.

I'm with you guys though, I think if he puts Clinton on the ticket then he's out of his mind.

A few months ago, I said no matter the outcome, it will be historic. A man of color, a woman or an old Nam vet would become President -- a historic first in any case.

However, I will make no secret of this: I think Hill should've won. Her campaign was botched and outspent. I am convinced she would be the better President of the three. Obama the worst. That is my considered opinion as  someone who's been fascinated by national politics since 1976.

I have heard every speech in every primary since then. Most of them are pretty much the same. But only two candidates have had an unusual effect on large crowds: Reagan and Obama. Hackles go up when I see that kind of effect on people, the same hackles that went up when all the flags appeared on every car in America after 9/11. It's scary, and I don't like it. Mass mind is not a good thing.

In the last few months, the internets have become increasingly hostile and repulsive to someone of my ilk. The internets are Obama country. I have found out that, apparently, I am a moron and a racist. And probably a fat hysterical old white woman. Who is bitter. And a moron. Did I mention moron?

Welp, I just have to sit on the sidelines and stare in stunned disbelief as platoons of otherwise fairly intelligent young people fall into line and take up the marching orders. Gobble up the speeches with no substance. Chant meaningless mantras.

Good Lord.

About half of all voters are behind McCain. The second half is split right down the middle: all you college educated affluent lilberals on one side, and all us secretly racist hillbilly liberals on the other. If you don't find a way to make nice to your fellow non-Republicans, you might as well vote for Nader.

all us secretly racist hillbilly liberals on the other.

Makes me wonder just how many liberals shrieking into the cameras about how much of a great man Obama is  and how NOT RACIST they by voting for him will feverishly write in Hillary Clinton when it gets down to the actual voting.

If Obama loses, I doubt it will be due to rampant racism in this country. It will be because nobody knows just what the hell his plans actually are.  :|

Concur. At least, with Clinton, I could honestly say I disagreed with some of her policies and plans. I don't even know what Obama's are, so I can't really agree or disagree with them. That makes it confusing as hell.

I think that if McCain can get Obama to agree to an unmoderated old-fashioned debate, we will see that Obama is nothing without his teleprompter and speech writers.  And, that the things that he believes in are not about America, but about a socialist nation that we won't recognize.

So long as the debates are scripted, Obama's flock will continue to fawn over the new messiah.

From what I've gathered Obama wants to be a "leader" and lead the people while forming a cabinet of VERY well qualified people to help shape those fields with intelligence and compromise from both parties.

His ideas on unity are great but ultimately a little too idealistic. I would like to hope he can rally the dems and reps to work together and base his policy on what both parties can bring to the table for once and get the nation excited for it as well as getting the dems and reps excited too.

It would be really amazing but in the end I won't get my hopes up too high.

The less those idiots accomplish, the better, in my book.

A better choice for Obama VP would be Jim Webb or Bill Richardson.

Bill Richardson: New Mexico Governor that had a bid for the presidency (had very, very poor showings and dropped out early)

Jim Webb: Junior Senator from Virginia, good theories, dose nothing to pull in the women, Latinos, or the west.

He really should pick a Hispanic woman from the mid west. That would pull in all the votes!!

If he picked a woman, it would be like flaunting the new girlfriend in front of the old.  That will result in the Hillary supporters not voting for him.

I must admit I had never thought of it that way. So how dose Obama recapture the female voter, aside from stripping at the local clubs?
Title: Re: Guess Who Just made the History Books

Stripping on pay-per-view might work.

Funny though, I don't remember him ever loosing the female voter. I must've missed something inbetween all the hoping and changing.  :|

<~~Educated Liberal

So I'm safe in saying my opinion is he is better than McCain in the theories in principals.
I would rather vote for someone with no plan than someone who will send me off to war or weaken the economy anymore than it is. You know if we keep this up we may turn this country into some kind of Peter Paul and Mary song (Puff the Magic Obama, Got the presidency, somehow in the autumn mist, He confused his constituency)

Poor attempt at humor.. probably; at least I tried.

I lolled. Puff, the Magic Anything is always funny.

Hn, (no damnit, not that HN, the sound) it sounds like you like Obama, right? Or are you saying he's just the lesser of two weevils? I've been on the I'm not voting for the lesser of two weevils speil once already today, so I'll try to keep this out of the rant zone. How do you figure it? The man who will do the least amount of damage, or the best man for the job? Or do they appear to be the same person to you?

Easy way to word it, I am a constant student. Every time a Democrat is in the White House school loans go down, when Republicans are in the White House the cost of education skyrockets. Aside from that I have read and attended speaches for both (part of work as well; at least until the end of the month) In both speeches I have found McCain to be well spoken and a very passionate man.. but he seems to be passionate against everything I am for at times. I also cannot find where his true heart lies when it comes to war and peace. Obama is very outspoken and I have found myself to be more like minded to him. Also I have met him and he seems very genuine.
Could he be lost in thought and clueless to how politics work?
-- Most likely
Will he learn and attempt to carry out 90% of what he says?
-- I think he will succeed in about 2% of his original goals but that 2% puts us (as a country) in a better position than we are currently in.

I never pick the lesser of two evils, I find that overtime someone will emerge the better candidate and this time around I feel that is Obama.
Hope that isn't too long of a response.

So basically, you're putting it forward that maybe it's time for some inexperience in the White House. Okay, I'll respect that opinion.
