Okay I want to switch from Windows to Linux, but I don't know how to. Do I have to do something special with the hard drive or something like that?
-
Yes. You have to install Linux on it. :)

That's it? Could I still switch to Windows 7 if I wished?

If you want a dual-boot system (dont know why you would) you would leave windows on the HDD and create a separate partition for Linux.

do you know how to boot a system from the disk drive?
if you can do that, you can use Linux without even installing it on your computer. well, most Linux. any distro you would be interested in, most likely.
