Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / New build
« on: August 20, 2012, 07:25:52 AM »
OK fellow geeks and previous HNers, I need a little help. I put a new build together over last week and finished up last night. The kicker is Windows won't load, and my CPU is overheating. I got a new case and put in a new mobo, processor (with fan), power supply & video card. Then I put in my optical drives and hard drive from my other computer. When I start it up the ASUS bios screen will load up fine. It shows my CPU fan is on, but the temp on the CPU keeps climbing. Everything else seems green. When I bypass the bios screen Windows starts, but it will kick off. The machine then reboots and I get a mesage saying Windows failed to boot properly and I can either Auto Repair, or try again. Auto Repair does nothing and if I let it try again the same thing happens. Can anyone give me any ideas/pointers? Thanks.

Anarchy / Home brewing
« on: January 08, 2012, 10:58:36 AM »
This topic got started over in the Denizen Picture thread, but that seemed like a poor place for it (drinking tends to make pictures, and about everything else, blurry after all). As such I thought I'd open up a new thread over here.

I've been giving some serious thought and looked into it more. I even looked over a recipe at Midwest to see how to actually brew. I don't want to drop a bunch of money on this and not be able to really get into it. Then again, I don't want to half-arse it and make bad beer. I was looking at the kits at Midwest Supplies (as Reimero suggested), and looking at the secondary fermenters. Of those here who home brew, do you use a secondary fermenter? Sediment in my beer doesn't bother me so much, as I have had many good hefeweissen which had some sediment. Not sure if that extra sediment in the fermentation would take away from the taste or not.

I also wondered if those of you that used a secondary fermenter had a dedicated refrigerator? I saw in the instructions that you needed to keep the fermenting brew at a fairly steady, and low, temp. As such I saw a basement floor in winter was good, but not sure how it'd work during the summer months.

I guess in general I am looking for some pointers as a potential home brewer.

New Geeks on the Block / Salutations
« on: December 10, 2011, 03:56:54 PM »
Greetings to all. For those of you from the days of HN, this is damoose. For those of you not from the old days, I'm damoose from HN; nice to meet you. Ivan pointed me in this direction after I found him on Facebook. I remember mentionings of the Geekery on HN, but never actually got over here to make myself known. This should give me a nice break from work since the Flash Player hasn't been updated on my work machine in years and I have been unable to do anything 'non-work related'. As is my norm I will probably sit back and say little, but read much. I look forward to wasting a good amount of time here. Until next we meet, ciao.
