I agree with most of what This Fucking Thread has said about TFA.

With regards to Rogue One (spoils)..

First, I enjoyed this movie and especially liked the Captain Andor character. The ending Vader scene brought some light-saber badassery which I had been missing in my life.

But one thing that irks me about these "middle movies" is their apparent need to tie all the other movies together and explain every last unexplained second of the timeline. Do we really need to see the exact moment where Rogue One ends and A New Hope begins? This obsession with explaining everything's backstory is one of the reasons the prequels were shit, and it soured the ending for me.

Merry Christmas!

I mostly spent the day chasing and being chased by my niece around the couch. I'll have to put on a tracker next time to see if I can give BizB a run for his money... I ate pie to refuel.

Today I'm staring electronic daggers at anyone who dare try to make me work while I'm at work.

Sticky Stuff (no pun intended) / Re: What game are you playing lately?

1. System Shock is getting a remake by Nightdrive:
http://systemshock.com/about/

As part of the Kickstarter, I got the enhanced version of the original which I've been playing lately. I'm really only familiar with SS2, so it's interesting to get the backstory. Of course, this means I'll have to re-play SS2 soon.

2. Also playing Skyrim: Special Edition. I bought the original + all DLCs for cheap on Steam awhile back so they gave me this one for free. The updates make it worth another play-through in my opinion. I wouldn't have spent $40 on it, though.

3. I bought Super Castlevania 4 for SNES and have been playing that as well. I'm going backwards in this series as my first experience was Symphony of the Night on PlayStation and this is only my second. I love pretty much everything about this game, so far.

4. I'll be buying one of the NES classics as well assuming I can get my hands on one...

Geez... And I thought I was working on spending less of my time on video games.

I had one of my classics:
I'm in a building with at least 100+ stories and need to get to the top. The only means of transport to the top is an elevator on the outside of the building. As I ascend, the wind picks up to an obscene level and starts blowing the elevator around. Apparently, the elevator is only attached via cables, no rails or anything. The elevator also sometimes doesn't have doors so I hang on for dear life trying to avoid getting dumped out.

Usually when I get to the top floor, there's nothing really to do so I have to take the same elevator back down - that's when I fall out.

Occasionally my dad would bring home a teletype for working from home. A big suitcase type thing with an acoustic coupling modem (sockets for the handset, etc), dialed into a service called TYMSHARE. I have no idea what the mainframe was. The terminal was a thermal printer, believe it or not, quite advanced. But, no screen, right? A line printer. You typed the commands, the computer replied, they printed out on paper that scrolled up like out of a typewriter. ANYWAY. The Watergate hearings were on, so this was, like, 1974.

Also, this is pretty impressive. One of my favourite YouTube series (or, perhaps the only one I watch) is AVGN. I love the episodes when he pulls out the really old stuff, though, nothing like this.

We didn't own a console until the Nintendo 64 - this was before we even owned a family PC. I did get to play Oregon Trail / Number Munchers / etc. on the 'ol Apple II at school - boy those were the days. Other than that, though, I played Mortal Kombat at the Mexican restaurant down the street or some classic TMNT Arcade at the mall if I was lucky.

Sounds like they just don't want to give up the consumer data. Based on that premise, I wonder how many consumers actually concerned with privacy will use the alternate tools. Seems like a reason to stick with cash or simply avoid those retailers.

BTW, there are solutions for online transactions (Abine's MaskMe, for example) but AFAIK these can't take advantage of "near field".

EDIT: Geek has some details on how CurrentC works..
http://www.geek.com/mobile/retailers-stop-apple-pay-and-google-wallet-working-want-currentc-to-be-the-future-1607802/

Basically, these retailers are simply going to keep NFC disabled completely and go back to QR codes. 2007, anyone? I also like the last sentence of this article:
"It’s not a matter of if people will use this service, it’s a matter of when and how often."

Never and never.

In last night's dream I was involved in a snowboarding competition. I've never snowboarded, but I was pestering some other snowboarder to give me all the tips and tricks. I figured hell, I've ski'd once and fell on my ass several times on a blue-black - I can handle a snowboarding competition with professionals.

Somehow, snowboarding on a snowy mountain morphed into kayaking down a river and things go fuzzy there. Very anti-climactic.

Sure why not..

My PC - Let's see.. Windows 8.1 64-bit; i7-3820 3.6GHz quad-core (dual-threaded); ATI Radeon 7590 that the software suite recognizes as a "200 series", so has the wrong drivers but works fine (maybe its grey market); Some motherboard that does all the things; Samsung 850 Pro SSD

iPhone 5 - It does the phone thing but it also does the music thing. Oh, and I can get Uber rides which has recently become a thing where I live.

Err.. yep. I got a new Lenovo for work but that doesn't count.
