I think Libya/Gaddafi fell into the 'they've got oil, they're our friends category'.

Hurrah! Someone else not afraid to admit listening to Xanadu!

Currently going through a Spotify playlist of various bands from my place of residence.

Seconded on the Foxit PDF reader - so much smaller and less intrusive that the Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Iran put down big national protests a couple of years ago in quite a bloody manner. I don't see them behaving any different this time around :-(

Your voice has something about it... The way you sing makes me think of Lou Reed.

Cheers! Maybe I'll stick a Velvet Underground cover in my setlist.

Well you can listen to the version with music... don't know if that makes it better or worse!

Writer's Block / Geekpop Song Contest Winners

So I entered the Geekpop SongWriting Contest this summer. Didn't win the main prize but the winner - UnGoogleable You - was supberb.

http://geekpop.podbean.com/2010/09/08/introducing-naomi-fearn/

I myself wrote something (also at the above link) on Gregor Mendel, which managed to win The Most Contrived Rhyme Prize...

You grew up on the family farm
Moved to a monastery with an experimental gar-den
Six years of wrapping bags around the flowers of plants
Giving us the music for the genetic dance

You must be Mendel Mendel Mendel Mendel yeay oh yeah

You analysed traits of the plants that give us peas
Then controlled how they got to breed
You then analysed the plants that grew from the seeds
Eventually proposing living things had genes

You must be Mendel Mendel Mendel Mendel yeay oh yeah

Its a shame they didn’t believe / in the theory you got from you plants
It was only after you died / that they gave the peas a chance

Growing 29000 plants was not the only trick
You still had to perform some Mendel arithmetic
Probabilities of hybrids, dominant and recessive traits
Giving us genetics and showing us the way

You must be Mendel Mendel Mendel Mendel yeay oh yeah

Howdy All

Just joined so I would like to take off my bowler hat and introduce myself. I write geeky musical songs amongst other things and was pointed here by someone involved in something called Geekpop. Hope to have a pleasant stay!
