My wife was part of this. She was doing the busting, not being busted.

Shadow has a series? I am going to have to look those up now.

Ender's Shadow was the one about Bean, right? I read the entire series prior to seeing Shadow. I really liked Shadow's 'other side of the story'. I actually lent my Ender's series to a co-worker and told her to read Shadow second. She liked them, but got lost after Speaker.

I have a bit of flexibility in my scedule, in that my clock in time isn't set in stone. For the most part we get a 5 minute grace period for clocking in. After that it is a 15 minute dock. If we are habitually late we are supposed to be up for disciplinary action. We have only recently had someone actually get fired for being habitually late. The talking to/discipline is left up to the department heads. I hate being late, but sometimes it is difficult to get a 3 year old moving in the morning. I'll admit to using the grace period on the wrong end, and even being a little later. My boss understands and I just make up my time (never mind that I tend to stay over by 30 min. on a regular basis anyways ).

How was 'Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter'? I've been keeping an eye out for it at the local reseller.

You may say that isn't an excuse, but kids seem to throw more wrenches into stuff then bad mechanics. I used to do karate twice a week and hit the gym regularily before Aubrey was born. I haven't really done either of them in almost four years now. I'll be laid low for a while come May too, as I have to have my ACL reconstructed. Ends up I tore it playing flag football in November. Oops.

I was going to say the same thing Socrates. Apparently someone forgot to lock the door after they let us back in.

Greetings and solutions.
Science is cool. Not sure I could teach it to middle schoolers though. Couldn't be too much worse then trying to teach it to adults that really don't much care to learn it.
My favourite super hero is Hebrew Man.

Not sure what I shall be reading next. "Chainfire" is next int he series, but I don't have it yet. May go with "Fear the Alien" (it is from the Warhammer 40k series).

I was looking at the basic 'everything' kit on Midwest. I didn't think the $135 price tag was too bad considering what you get with it. Than again would a 4 gallon pot be large enough? It also looks like you'd need another thermometer any way to check your temp while steeping the grains. I am sure I could either get, or have, a couple dozen empty bottles in the house. I don't have a large stock pot, but I think I could pick up a functional one at Wal Mart or Target. That would leave the actual beer kit, which looks like they typically run $25-30. That would easily put the price right back up there around $135.
In part I was wondering if single stage fermentation was worth it, and it sounds like it is. I will have to to do some searching to see what else is out there before 'taking the plunge'. I think it is a hobby that I will certainly enjoy, there is just a bit more to it then I expected. I've looked around some, but I think I will continue looking for now at least.

This topic got started over in the Denizen Picture thread, but that seemed like a poor place for it (drinking tends to make pictures, and about everything else, blurry after all). As such I thought I'd open up a new thread over here.
I've been giving some serious thought and looked into it more. I even looked over a recipe at Midwest to see how to actually brew. I don't want to drop a bunch of money on this and not be able to really get into it. Then again, I don't want to half-arse it and make bad beer. I was looking at the kits at Midwest Supplies (as Reimero suggested), and looking at the secondary fermenters. Of those here who home brew, do you use a secondary fermenter? Sediment in my beer doesn't bother me so much, as I have had many good hefeweissen which had some sediment. Not sure if that extra sediment in the fermentation would take away from the taste or not.
I also wondered if those of you that used a secondary fermenter had a dedicated refrigerator? I saw in the instructions that you needed to keep the fermenting brew at a fairly steady, and low, temp. As such I saw a basement floor in winter was good, but not sure how it'd work during the summer months.
I guess in general I am looking for some pointers as a potential home brewer.

No home brew kit. However I did just get my cell phone rebate back. May have to get myself a brew kit afterall. Looking at the Coopers kit as it has just about everything in it. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I really need to get back in gear too. I was down around 15 pounds last summer, but I put it all back on. I want to start back up on my running program again, but I need to go see the knee doctor next week. My knee still hasn't healed up, and my regular doc was mad at me for waiting so long to tell him. Main goal is to be in the low 270s, and hopefully work in a 5k thanks to the running program. Trying to eat better currently, looking to add in some exercise after the knee gets healthy. Weighed in at 296 pounds (on a 6'5" barrel-chested frame) at the doc before x-mas.

I will shoot for 20 books. Probably undershooting, but it will be nice to overachieve on something.
