Are Celeron's the new 486sx's of today?
« on: February 09, 2004, 12:31:08 AM »

What's the deal with Intel Celerons?  Are they worthless in power for use in todays systems or more importantly for servers or webservers?   Or are they best used by little old ladies who do nothing but surf with AOL and write MS Word letters?

Celerons have a smaller cache than other processors. They are less efficient, cheaper to produce and cheaper to buy. Unless you are into gaming or 3D animation or other applications that are CPU extensives, celerons can do a descent job.

For someone that just wants a web box, a celeron would be fine.

If you want a cheap system and don't intend to Photoshop anything or run intense games, the by all means use a Celeron. It would make a fine word processing/web browsing machine.

Whenever I think of the Celeron processor, I think of the phrase, "What kind of chip you got in there, a Dorito?"

You're using a 286? Don't make me laugh. You're Windows boots up in what, a day and a half? /al

I agree with TheJudge about a Celeron chip being the cheaper advantage for the average user but not intended for power use... you should trust me; the rest of these guys use Windows 3.1

Thanks all...   I think I'll get an Athlon XP processor system, definitely will avoid Celeron based systems...
