If you get your own box setup, you can use a free DNS service, such as http://www.dyndns.com. It won't be exactly what you want, but it simply forwards a subdomain of a main domain (they have many to choose from) to your IP.

For instance, my home computer is running http://fuse.gotdns.com. All that site does is forward, it does not store, manage, or effect your server at all. (I don't really have anything up there now, btw)

I know that much lol, I was wondering about hosting outside my own home though, because I really don't want the lag it would cause me.

Crystalmonkey is scribcake?
I was replying to the original, which gave the impression that the dns and space was the issue, not location or bandwidth.

Finally got a wesbite on teh intraweb... http://www.the-obvious.net

I was reading your site, and I have a question:

Isn't it somewhat unfair to test a child's brattiness by taking them to a TOY STORE (specifically) and then refusing to buy them anything? I mean, how can you even do that? "Come on Joey, let's go to the toy store so you can look at the toys." "Can I have one?" "Ahahaha, you're such a brat!"

We've had some awsome debate threads. For a while, those threads were ruling the geekery. But then we got tired of beating around teh "Bush". There is room here for those kinds of discussion. In fact, when Verspertine makes a post here, it's usually to do just what you propose. But dammit she needs to post more often! Sure, people like me will go post a humorous crackonce in a while, but just slap me in the face and continue with the discussion. When Chris created this place, this is exactly the kind of threads he was hoping to see. I think it would be nice to have some good debate threads around like we used to.

Awwww Judgie, you make me blush.  :)

I'm sorry that I haven't been around more, but there is good news!  I've started a new job, which will allow me to have enough free time to have a life, and I'll definitely have time to be around more.  I haven't started a good debate in awhile, and I'm itching for one.

One fatal flaw in these boards (here, HN, etc) for debate is most of us are like-minded. Makes it tough to debate if everybody pretty much agrees.
Though I'm sure there are subjects that would be controversial here. It would be interesting.

We used to have really great debates with Rico, but he hasn't been here in forever.  He used to get in and mix it up by defending the conservative viewpoint.  Whenever we did have a good debate, it was always with a mutual respect.  I don't think we ever got personal about it.  Either we need Rico back, or we need to go recruit some Republicans/conservatives/raging liberals.

I know my page is...interesting at best...but its the thought that counts.

About the toy store thing. Is it reasonable to take a kid to a toy store, perhaps to go shopping for somebody ELSES present? Maybe the kid was invited to a birthday party.

I'm not saying you scream at him and tell him he is a failure and will never grow up to what he should be, but if you tell him no and he goes into a tantrum and a rant, you probably have a brat on your hands.

Why would I go to someplace like...a salad bar? What about a piece of lettuce is going to tempt him? Nothing, unless of course he wants to leave because it is boring.

Edit: (Just thought of something)

Also, if you notice, I said something along the lines of "If you already bought him something in (whatever time period is too short for your income.)..."

I didn't say you should drag him into the store and tell him to look but not touch.

WOOHOO!!!

I'll have to see if I can come up with a good debate for you. :)

Just to clarify...
Being a hardcore social conservative means that you think the government has a right, nay a duty, to tell people how to live their lives, correct?
