I don't get it, if it's such a shitty book, why would you continue to read it? That's like watching a movie on TV that you hate; You can easily change the channel, but for some reason you're compelled to watch this one movie that you hate.

Then again, I suppose if your job is to review movies and/or books, you'd be forced to watch or read something that you hate.

So no, I haven't read it, nor have I heard of it up until this moment in time. I rarely find myself reading something that isn't a manual on how something works, or a book on a programming language.

I'm currently reading Marshall Brain's More How Stuff Works. A book that I think any Geek would enjoy.

Smoking gun revealed that it is actually fiction and most of it is made up and the dude is selling it as nonfiction.

I own that book. I guess I should probably mention that I bought it before the Oprah recommendation so people don't think I'm less cool - because Internet coolness is my #1 priority.

Fact or fiction, I thought it was an entertaining read. It does diminish its overall effect if it's fiction, but I enjoyed reading it, and I would probably enjoy it only slightly less if I read it again.

Actually, the fact that Oprah recommended it bothers me more than the lies.
:\

Edit: I read through the review, and while I will agree with that guy about the awkward prose and the idiotic nature of the author's relationship with Lily, I find down & out stories to be entertaining in a funny sort of way.
