Workout Songs
« on: May 06, 2008, 01:50:55 PM »

I have a bunch of songs on my mp3 player that I take to the gym with me that "get me pumped" and was wondering what songs get you guys going.

I did a Google search for what other people think outside of these forums, and they generally thought any song by Kelly Clarkson or Britney Spears were good songs to work out to. That wasn't exactly what I was looking for.

My mp3 player consists of stuff from (To name a few):

Atreyu
Rammstein
Flaw
Papa Roach
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Chevelle
Linkin Park

What about you guys?

I usually play Nightwish stuff.

Also, this is gonna be strange I know, but Weird Al's "Hardware Store" on loop does it for me as well.

Slayer, esp. God Hates Us All
Prong
Mastodon

If I happen to not be so pissed off some day, then I'll go with The Avalanches.

Cherubim is plural; Genesis 3:24 specifies one flaming sword. Presumably flaming swords were in short supply."

Weird Al?

I've heard a lot of his stuff, but I actually had to YouTube "Hardware Store". Maybe I'm just too young. Quite an interesting piece of work from him.

I forgot to put Metallica on the list. Although some of their new stuff is garbage, and they were assholes for starting the whole RIAA "hay guys you owe me 10 million per song" bullshit, their older stuff is still heavy.

Slayer
Chevelle
Tool
The Sword
Pantera
A Perfect Circle
Rage Against The Machine
Suicidal Tendencies

okay.

for the record, i don't work out (hell, it should be obvious). however, i do try to walk or get on the eliptical on a fairly regular basis and find that i'm more motivated to follow through if i listen to either dropkick murphys, the decemberists, or the transplants.

What is this "workout" you speak of? Is that like when I walk out on my porch to pay the pizza guy?

Some songs by The Prodigy seem to get me going, for whatever reason.

Today I added songs from 3rd Strike, Tool, and A Perfect Circle. Not a bad mix. Though I didn't need much to get me going tonight as I did back along with biceps which are two easy muscle groups for me.

Legs on the other hand...

That got me thinking. Demo sent me these a LONG time ago:

Flotsam and Jetsam - Unnatural Selection - Dream Scrape
Flotsam and Jetsam - Unnatural Selection - Chemical Noos

Good heavy stuff to listen to. Right along the lines of older Metallica stuff. Kind of.

I forgot:

Fear Factory. They have some heavy stuff that's good to lift to.

When I first joined the army, I would listen to heavy/fast music. Most of what has been listed, Metallica, FF, thrash, punk, metal stuff. But then a friend made me listen to some classical music while we were in the gym one day. I found I was actually worked out better. It helped me relax in between sets and it really seemed to help.

Now when I ruck or run, thats different. After a couple of experiments, I found that the driving beats of the hard music helped me keep up a better pace than the classical.

You haven't really lived until you've nearly died running through an intersection while listening to "Come Sail Away."

Yeah, I like Fear Factory for working out too.  Especially their "Archetype" album.

Or "Lorelei", I imagine.

I power walk to 'Clubbed To Death' from The Matrix soundtrack, all the while repeating the speech in my head. Is that a bad thing? Or better, does it even count as working out?
