Someone didn't read the whole thread, did they?

...the entire "Mad Max" series...

Also, any Hitchcock film. All of them. From "Psycho" to "The Birds" to "Vertigo" to name a few.

Ok.

Alien... so I'll give you that one, up to Aliens3. Whoever is responsible for pushing Alien Ressurection should be shot in the knee caps, strung up side down, painted black, and hung up in Alabama. Yes, it was so bad it made me give you a lynching reference.

Predator was good but the rest of the series sucked (yes, there were more and I think they sucked).

AvP gave me a nose bleed in the first five minutes so I have to admit I didn't watch the whole thing. Did it get better after the shitty plot set-up and horrible acting?

/snobby elitism

I also think the quality of sci-fi films has declined severely in the last ten to fifteen years.

Alien Resurrection was still a lot better than plenty of other sci-fi films.  There were a lot of memorable moments, the effects were damned good, and Sigourney Weaver did a great job.

As for Predator, there was only one sequel.  It didn't suck.  It also set up the idea of Xenomorphs fighting Predators, which spawned tons of great comic books, video games and the movie that you didn't see but hated anyway.

Actually my favourite movies are Blade Runner and Trainspotting. I don't really understand the whole "Core Geek Movies" thing though.

Personally I would add The Net and Pirates of Silicon Valley. Then of course all of the Indian Jones movies, probably all of the super hero movies, definitely all of the Matrix movies, Transformers.

I agree you shouldn't limit the list because a movie was popular, one of the things I believe makes a movie geeky is that people keep talking about them years after they were made, quoting them etc.

Oh and let's not forget LoTR, Lady Hawke, Princess Bride, and Legend for the fantasy geeks.
