Before they made it into a crappy movie, I read Steven King's 1408 and there's a part where the guy in the hotel room picks up the phone and it's just like this. Some guy reading numbers and screaming obscenities. That part freaked me out the most.

I have heard of the numbers stations, those seem to be "intelligence" related, and I can understand how they are used.  This, though, was completely bizarre.  Part of me wished I was hanging around to see what happened at 9am, the other was glad I would be far, far away by then.

Numbers stations are freaky.  This is strange, too.  I've tried firing up my shortwave since moving here to the Poconos, but I get fuck all reception-wise.

Dude.  That is EXACTLY the part of the written story that freaked me the hell out.

"Six!  SIX! Goddamn fucking SIX!!!  Ten!  All your friends are dead!  TEN!"




A part of me was glad they understated that part of the story in the film version.  I didn't think the movie was that bad, but I was half-dreading when/if they got to that part in it.
