I'm on a LAN, and my computer generates an internal IP and an external IP to the internet. This is hell when trying to host online games, and conducting file transfers on AIM or MSNM. Is there any possible way I can bypass my proxy and be able to do these things?
-
It depends on how you have your network setup. Could you provide more details as to how you have your setup hooked up?
-
Yep. We're in an apartment... and we have two computers in the room, both hooked up to a router. The router is connected to the apartment's network, which runs on a T1.

Most likely it must be the router causing you all this "hell". Your router most likely has its own IP address, something like 192.168.0.1, which you can use to configure it for port routing and other stuff dealing with security. You want to router whatever port you're going to use for the game to the right node within your room.
I don't think they would be bastard-like enought to put you behind a nice, mean proxy that logs everything you do when you're already paying good amounts for the rent on the place.
The router is the key here. Find out how to configure your model, and you'll be set.

As Chris said, it sounds like you need to configure the router you have to allow "open ports" for the ports you need. What model of Router do you have? If you don't know this, then you either have one generic-ass router, OR....you don't actually have access to the router and is part of the T1 network?
If it's YOUR router, then you should be able to either open the ports needed, or make one of the computers the "DMZ" computer which will bypass the protection of the built in NAT addressing firewall and will allow ALL ports to be open on that one computer.
So........a little more info..... please? :?:

try going to either
http://192.168.1.0/
or
http://192.168.0.1/
or go to start>>>run>>>winipcfg
and go to your router and see the "default gateway"
Then, try read the manual or doing a search on the router you have to see the default password, and try putting that in. if it doesn't work talk to who set up the router. Then you're going to want to lead the ports that you want (the games will usually tell you what port they are using) to your computer.
It really depends on the brand/software that you have.

Damn kiddies, all the good answers were taken in the first two hours of the thread.
Yea, what they said.
