Title: Back Audio Ports

I have a MSI K8T800 "K8T Neo-FIS2R" Motherboard with built in audio. I cant seem to get the back audio to work. Right now I'm running it from the front audio jack. You have to set the jumpers correctly to get everything to work.

I emailed tech support and they tell me this.

If you refer to manual on page 2-23. if you remove these jumper the Line out on the connectro will not function. If you want the rear audio you must install the jumper on 5-6 & 9-10. otherwise remove will disable the rear audio port

I don't know about your particular motherboard, but I have had many a hard drive over the years that had jumper settings very clearly marked in the manual, and when applied in real life did not work at all the way they said they would.  In my experience, about 50% of the time, the diagram is backwards or upside down from the way it actually is on the hard drive.

You might try doing it the opposite way they are recommending?  It sounds stupid, but I've had some success with similar things, and I can understand how fricken frustrating that is, believe me.  :)

I'll second that.  I was filling in some time with a friend (fellow supervisor) on his job while I was waiting for my next project to start.  A few days before I left he asked me to put in a new larger drive for him.  Piece of cake, right?  It was a Compaq with a 4 gig csel drive.  I had him get a 7200 rpm 80 gig Western Digital.  That thing would not recognize it with it as csel, master, or slave.  Came home that afternoon and researched it on the Hp/compaq site and could not for the life of me see anything that I had done wrong.

The next day after scratching my head till it bled I went to the back of the instructions that came with the drive.  It seems some mother boards needed two sets of jumpers on them.  Tried that and voila.  Perhaps I'm not as up on these things as some people but that's one I had never heard of.

I noticed on one of my older CD ROMs you cannot look at the diagram the way that you would normally look at it if you were to read it like a human being.

Also, you might want to check in the BIOS to make sure your on board AC97 onboard sound is enabled. I believe that board uses the AC97 chipset.  :roll:

i hate BS. I've done everything but do the inverse of the jumper setup that the manual tells me. i'll try it tomorrow. i'm sure MSI didnt notice their little mistake. thanks!
