ive got a crappy old celeron 400 in a crappy old motherboard with only 1 pci slot.... when i changed the celeron for a PIII nothing would apear on the screen but you could hear the puter booting up. same thing happened when i got an interenal video card and inserted a modem... any ideas why?

uhm... 90% chance the motheboard wasn't compatible with what you decided to put in.
you might have been hearing the hard disks, fans, etc..

The motherboard isn't compatable with the processor. Go get a new motherboard, or stick with the old processor.

You could have also fried the board or the processor. Some fans would still go, but the hard drives would not.
Most likely you have a motherboard that is too old and will not support the PIII.

great.... i spose this is what you get when you buy cheap 'shit'. thanx for the help.
