He already said that.  "New England Academia."

That jacket is corduroy.  That doesn't count.

Unless you're a full professor (with Ph.D.) of any discipline beginning with "P" at an accredited university, and then only if you have patches on the elbows.

Portrait of the [Writer] as a Young Man!

You'll notice that *I* have a jacket on. Some of us are pro-fessionals!

Wow, you wear a tie?  Out here in Cali, it's pretty much just the CxOs (except for our CMO but that's another story) and Account Executives.  Engineers and IT dress pretty slovenly.  Marketing is well marketing.  And we in finance dress like you but without the tie.

Dude... here in the midwest, what Demo is wearing is what we call "ratty."  It's the sort of outfit you'd wear when, say, you're working in the yard or painting.  He can get away with it because he's clearly been on his hands and knees pulling cable or something similar.

I mean, he's not even wearing a business casual jacket, FFS!

I think you should read the board rules and post in the introductions forums or else the moderators win.  And you lose.

Silly Demo.

She makes Sony camera commercials.

I don't really care one way or t'other about her music.

This, however, tickles me pink:

(Her brother is a student at a major university at which I work yet which will remain unnamed.

What?)

  :-D

I was certain I was perfectly legal, but I wasn't going to argue with him. I was just glad ( and surprised ) that he went to actually check, returned everything to me, and verified that he was incorrect; I was in the right. I expected to be arrested, jailed, charged with felonies, and my guns taken away - only to have it thrown out in court. That seems to be the Operating Method of Choice in my experience. I'm glad he didn't go that route. He was a decent fellow; treated me respectfully and didn't try to intimidate me or run over me.

Of course; they certainly know who I am now. That's not really a good thing for any reason.  :|

Well...
They also know you know what you're doing.  They know you're respectful.  They know you did your homework with respect to the law.  They know when they came knocking, you were not a dick.  In other words, it sounds like they're pretty sure you're not a dick and not a threat.  And you're something of a known quantity to them.  Will they be watching?  Who knows?  But my hunch is that it won't come back to bite you in the ass.  On the contrary, this could play out to your benefit.

You want "Vincimus ergo sumus."

Latin verb root: "vincire", literally, "I bind (tie up, restrain, surround), therefore I am."  It's the third part of "Veni, vidi, vici", in which case it essentially means "conquer" or "subjegate."

Domitus?  Or are you thinking "Dominus", which means "lord"?

I think it's more, "we subdue (or tame, or dominate), therefore we are."

Anarchy / Re: How are you getting ready for the end of the world?
« on: June 25, 2010, 11:11:16 AM »
It's all relative.  If you blow through 500+ rounds in a weekend, that can get expensive right quick.

However, if all you do is the occasional target shooting to keep in practice, and hunting, you don't go through anywhere near that many rounds.

That sounds more like the definition of a "gun nut" than a responsible marksman.  Why waste 500 rounds when 3 will do the job just as effectively?

Unless you're me, of course.  I can't hit the broad side of a barn at 20 yards.

That can't happen while the entire system is completely controlled by the two parties.  They made it this way because they want it this way.

No real debate, and no real change can happen until there are more viable options than just Democrat and Republican.
And the proposed Tea Party doesn't count.  They're just the disgruntled Palin backers.

Is he plying you with beer in exchange for your help?
If not, why not?
If so, is it real beer or is it craptacular imitation Natty Light?

Back in my day, we played fantasy games the right way: with paper, pencils and a wide assortment of plastic polyhedra.  Those with big allowances even had pewter inaction figures!
